Yup, he got a good deal. The Craigslist king strikes again
It wasn't nearly as good of deal as project tj resurrection. That only comes around once in a blue moon. The new one has hard top, soft top, bikini top, wind jammer, full doors, 6 cylinder and a 5 speed. I got it for less than I could find a 4 cylinder with a rag top for. So I did all right. This Tj will be become my daily driver. Im selling the yj

So glad i did the h4 conversion and headlight harness upgrade! Even with just the sylvania extra vision bulbs it makes a huge difference. the leds are in the dash, the 20 inch bar on the bumper, and the new lift struts on the hatch. Next thing is to put the old ones under the hood, after i get a battery and get my moms zj running......

Dunno, the officer didn't sound like they were going to be putting out the dragnet for her. Just told me to send him the license plate info (gave it to dispatcher but it didn't come back to a KIA) and he'd give me their insurance information so I could file a claim.

911 told me to pull over and wait for the cop. Which was good since other wise I would have probably been doing 80 in that residential neighborhood staying up with her.

The other thing that comes to mind. What if this person makes the trip down this highway every work day? Now does she take another vehicle, take a longer but different route? It's like people have lost the ability to be honest and honorable then don't think about the consequences of their actions beyond the "right now".

It's really no big deal for me. So the tire rubbed a little bit, of course I didn't know this until I stopped and got out to look. Just something exciting that happened on the way to work.

Well, if anyone is in the Central Florida area, you may have heard of the Southern Offroad Adventure Rally (aka SOAR) at the Market of Marion in Summerfield, FL. Not sure what the full count was, but it's the same course and venue as is used for "Jeeptoberfest" - if you've never heard of that, can't help ya! - just kidding, here's the links -----> http://jeeptoberfest.com/ and http://themarketofmarion.com/southern-off-road-adventure-rally/

It's a pretty cool off-road event with lots of parts vendors, 3 trails - stock, modified, and extreme rock-crawling - open to all makes/models of off-road vehicles with 140" or less wheelbase. It's funny - Jeeptoberfest is for Jeeps only - all models of Jeeps, that is... but Jeeptoberfest winds up having a bigger turnout than SOAR.

I hate saying it, but I think a lot of Jeep owners are so snobby that they won't go to an event that isn't "Jeep only" and I HATE that. Oh well...

Anyway, yes I did take my 2wd stocker on the stock course and no I didn't get stuck anywhere or even have a problem even though the lightly modified wrangler in front of me did (I'm a little proud, can ya tell?)

I did end up ripping my exhaust pipe off from the catalytic back. That was fun. Folded in half like a straw right underneath my jeep. Had to pull off the trail and yank it the rest of the way off 'cause I was dragging it. I don't have any pics of my Jeep on the trails yet 'cause I'm waiting on friends to get off their duffs and post pics... but I did take some pics of the action while I was there.

68-72 model k5 blazer - nicely built I must say...
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-U5fm3pdIqKg/VP5lVbL7NwI/AAAAAAAAPS0/2Y2mU-knSko/s800/20150308_124534.jpg

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-frFkrBvSIPw/VP5lS54WTAI/AAAAAAAAPSs/isTLcImbZ_s/s800/20150308_124543.jpg

There was a really nice 60's model Bronco in line behind him... wound up passing him on a bypass with a different obstacle - but it was even nicer than the k5 - had a dark green paint job that I thought was black at first. Sweet lookin. Didn't get a pic though, sorry.

Then there was this guy... you may have seen pics of this on the web. Custom CJ8, stretched wheelbase, SBC, rockwell axles with rear-steer. Lots and lots of money spent in the right places with this thing....

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-dTJNnW2yY7w/VP5lLqOJUZI/AAAAAAAAPSM/Hd0mw15HYyI/s800/20150308_125435.jpg

Aaaaaand a really nice Yota truggy. 22r motor, real nice lookin' custom tube bed and tube front bumper. Didn't get a good look at the axles, but I don't think the rear is stock and of course, the front is SAS so it's not stock either.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-mCzSFgAcPNU/VP5lDd-VOFI/AAAAAAAAPR8/ZId0qhOixtU/s800/20150308_125454.jpg

This little 'Zuk is almost too nice to take offroad. But it did the whole stock course... I know for a fact it wasn't this clean at the end of it.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-L2KiiIarV3A/VP5lBhF0DMI/AAAAAAAAPR0/V_nUn0OgOio/s800/20150308_125745.jpg

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-vUs1DMnN9aA/VP5k8rpciHI/AAAAAAAAPRs/yOpotUv8XpQ/s800/20150308_130105.jpg

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7tjM5eIXvxA/VP5k6cVDtKI/AAAAAAAAPRk/vJ1n2yCHpVA/s800/20150308_165948.jpg

Got quite a bit of work to do on it this morning when I get off work... yay. I really really need to flip the tailpipe. Hard to tell from this pic, but it actually hangs down lower than the hitch.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-yNTdn9jzFi8/VOMNxWqbqSI/AAAAAAAAPJQ/cPKMy1nPne8/s800/20150216_084436.jpg

Took the jeep wheeling on the trails by my house again, like I do most days. But with the recent heavy rains, the creek I usually cruise through was way over the banks. Now I know If I went down in it, it would be way over the roof of the xj, but I still wanted to see how close I could get. However I had the wife with me, and she made me stop once the water started coming in through the doors.

Finally done the dodge stratus (neon) injectors swap! :D

My 2000xj had developed a misfire in cylinder one so further diag determined it was a bad injector. Intead of spending $80 on a replacement i went and raided the pick n pull for two hours and finally found 8 784 injectors from two stratus's.

Took the battery terminals off before i took the fuel rail off. 30 min install. Boom runs and purs like a new kitten!

Did a little tow test and was impressed!

Also changed the water pump and engine mounts. Put new exhaust (flowmaster) on it with a little stainless tip.

Yeah I'm with ya on this... even if you have a snorkel, there's a TON of electronics that can be damaged by going in that deep. That was actually my deciding factor in lifting my jeep instead of going lowcog. Too much water here in florida. Go figure, right?

Well, got home this morning and went to town trying to salvage the exhaust pieces I had and piece together an exhaust pipe from my catalytic back. I forgot to take any pictures of the finished product but trust me, it ain't pretty. Plus, when I got done (even though I really just needed to go to sleep) I practiced a little on a couple of pieces of pipe. I guess it didn't turn out too hideous for joining two pieces of metal together with no backing plate in place. Was pretty much just working the electrode back and forth across the gap and building up welds on top of welds to fill the gap. I did snap some pics of those though.

>>>WARNING. WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO SEE WILL MORTIFY YOU TO YOUR VERY SOUL. THE PERSON ATTEMPTING THESE WELDS IS AN UNTRAINED IDIOT USING A HARBOR FREIGHT 90 AMP FCAW (WHICH ISN'T EVEN DCEN) WITH HF WIRE AND HAS ONLY WELDED A FEW TIMES. THERE PROBABLY HAVE NEVER BEEN SUCH HORRIBLE WELDS IN THE HISTORY OF NEWB WELDERS. OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING WITH CAUTION.<<<

Nevermind those random pieces of wire stuck to the side of the pipe. I was too lazy by that point to bend down and get my nippers off the ground to trim my wire so I just arced it against the side of the pipe to shorten it up. It worked and of course, I didn't really care about the piece I was working on.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-OHX_D5yHbls/VP_a6opgz1I/AAAAAAAAPVE/uFcXnCXI71I/s800/20150310_112420.jpg

In all seriousness though, I think I'm going to try Lincoln Electric or Hobart wire. I've heard from a few welders that even with a crappy welder like this one, getting a better wire can make a lot of difference. They also recommended the LE and Hobart wire so hopefully I can snag some money for some here soon. After that, I could spend the money on a bridge rectifier and capacitor to convert this thing to a true DCEN FCAW, or just buy a MIG (what I'm leaning more towards).

Yeah, you're not kidding... I got to cut the BS welds the PO used to put the sliders onto the 90 XJ I have... clean them up a bit, and recoat them.. Then they'll be ready to install.. Can't wait.. Hoping once I get back from this 3 week mission I'm on... the weather will be much much better, and I can start tackling the bumper and slider install, as well as the 6.5" LA lift.. Can't wait to give her new altitude and attitude!! Will be even better once I get new larger (33") tires in and on her too.. but want to get everything else worked out first...

hobart wire beleive it or not actualy helps in a HF welder. but technique helps most. turn up the heat. know how fast of slow to go. keep it clean. *grind off any galvanization first, its harmful to your health to weld*
i went from a hf welder to a $500 hobart mig with pure co2 mix. welded so easy when settings are right. then i went to argon mix. its ok much better than flux.
i really dont like the switching out tanks all the time. get a big tank or swap out tanks everytime you have a big project :/

Finished putting in the Alloy Usa ball joints saturday, new brake pads on monday, changed the oil/filter yesterday. Dropped the jeep off at the alignment shop this morning. Figured with all the front end work that I've done lately it's a good thing to do. It's crazy to look back at all the things I've learned and done the past couple months. I haven't even had my Jeep for a year and I've learned so much!

Yeah I'm with ya on this... even if you have a snorkel, there's a TON of electronics that can be damaged by going in that deep. That was actually my deciding factor in lifting my jeep instead of going lowcog. Too much water here in florida. Go figure, right?

Nice! Any reason you went with the 784s instead of the 703s? Usually the 784s are for Renix jeeps IIRC

Yeah definitely... and the one album that says "Hunter's DSLR fund" is his apprentice. They're growing so much they're taking on help! lol

Nevermind those random pieces of wire stuck to the side of the pipe. I was too lazy by that point to bend down and get my nippers off the ground to trim my wire so I just arced it against the side of the pipe to shorten it up. It worked and of course, I didn't really care about the piece I was working on.

I think it's stock, it's certainly dirty enough. I wouldn't mind replacing the whole thing, it's pretty much the only thing i haven't done in the front end. I've been looking at the double shear pin style as they seem to be the best.

Take a look at the IRO double shear TB.. I have it, and haven't installed it yet, but it def looks beefy.. and I went ahead and replaced the bushing just cause it was used when I got it... either way... when I talked to IRO about the TB as well as the OTK steering I have from them, they said neither of them require a drop pitman arm... Now don't quote me on that, I'm just passing the word on what they told me both time I called to ask them about it...

Yeah it's 1.25" of heavy ass solid steel... Every time I move it around the garage or house, I go to pick it up with one hand like I do with the adjustable RC TB I have for my GF's LJ build.. and it definitely doesn't turn out very well... XJ Wheeler
03-14-2015, 02:27 AM
Did a small late evening project. Matt gave me a t-case bezel, and I just happen to buy one the night before ebay. Turns out the one matt gave me was broken where the bulb goes in, and the other one was not in as good of shape as they advertised. So using both I made one good one. I used the housing and lense from matts, and the bulb housing from the other one. And since I had them apart I played around with one of lenses, this one was deteriorating anyway and the color was wearing off for the indicators. So I made it a bit more unique with blue indicators and white lines.

Here's the original style (right) and my style (left).

7164

I had to cut off the tabs holding on the lense and bulb housing. So once I finished with the lense I used my soldering iron to melt them back down to hold them on.

7165

And installed.

7166

I still need to cut off the original bulbs socket and wire in the newer style on so it holds good in the bulb housing. But here it is with just the bulb stuck in the housing.

Saturday night I had a spontaneous recovery...

Was getting ready to go get some dinner and heard tires spinning outside. Upon examination we discovered a dodge ram 1500 stuck in the ditch out front across the road. Turns out the guy was backing out of the neighbors driveway and completely missed it. I mean, not even close. Looked like he turned before the ditch and dropped the front end off the culvert. When looking for tow hooks I noticed the air dam was pulled off on the drivers side. Since it didn't have hooks I backed the xj to the rear, hooked up the strap to the hitch and pulled him out backwards. Was surprised at how easy it was on the xj. Barely noticed it, but the ram wasn't buried or anything. I tried to get my brother to take a pic hooked up but he wouldn't. Anyways, I did snap some the next day of the damage.

Went to the junkyard yesterday. Got a few pieces I wasn't even really looking for, those stumbled upon pieces...

Found a newish looking starter, good as I've been contemplating replacing mine recently. Taking longer to start. Although looking at it later my brother noticed it had some marks on it like it had a few beatings in its past. Guess we'll see...

Also picked up two, yes TWO, of the trim pieces that go under the steering column on the pre97 xjs. I've looked for years and never found one, this time brought two! And of course, this comes a day or two after I buy one on ebay...

And... I know I may be called a fibber, story teller, even a lying scoundrel but I found the treasure of a lifetime. The holy grail of junkyard finds. A piece to make even the most detailed junkyard navigators filled with envy!

I was amazed to find two unbroken latches when I hit the JY to get one for my old 98, as well as amazingly two unbroken brackets for the back of the 97+ console the one that wraps around the HVAC duct that usually is always broken and allows the console to wobble... Unfortunately I lost one of each when I had to let my 98 go... but still got one of each for the 97... only need the lower console bracket right now on it though... maybe... heck it might just be missing the screws, knowing the PO and some of the sketch stuff he did with it...

On Saturday I replaced the lower rad hose but I think I didn't get all the air out. So today I played with it some more but the efan won't come on and it's getting hot so I'll check for air again. I'm thinking real hard about switching over to open cooling if I can't get the air out. Also I noticed a leak spraying out from my high pressure steering hose when I turn.

Saturday I got a few of the smaller things done I've been meaning to deal with. Installed that "new" console latch, the column trim piece on the bottom of the dash, swapped in a "new" overflow hose (mine was a little plugged up), checked the plugs/cap/rotor, and tightened up the valve cover bolts (some were a little loose), and added some seafoam to the tank.

Today I got to check one thing off the LONG list. A bit over a year ago I did my version on the cut and fold mod to my rear quarter panels to rid the body of some of the rust. Well, in that process I had to remove the fuel filler hose cover panel. I never liked not having it say some debris get caught on the tire and be thrown up into the hose and sever it. So, today I fabricated one to fit my cut and folded undercarriage. Instead of bolting to the inside of the quarter panel (which is no longer there) the outer side on the panel slips up into the hole for the hoses. And two screws go into the bottom to hold it on. I couldn't come up with another way to bolt it up so the screws go into the frame. Really surprising just how thin the rail is, at least in this area. I still have to paint it though as I ran out of primer. :bang:

:bang:

Here you can see the lip that slips into the quarter panel approximately 1/4" to hold the side.

You can tell the backyard has been treacherous lately. :rolleye0012:

You should make a few more of these to sell to folks doing CNF and don't have the skills to make something like this (like my non skilled a**)

My track bar showed up yesterday, so i resprayed the bolts for the new bracket with pb blaster. Also sprayed all the bolts to install my new front bumper. Only busted 4 bolts off which was frustrating because i ALWAYS wash/rinse the jeep after going to the beach or anywhere near the salt water. I will be more diligent going forward. Hi:
It started last year I guess. I drove a long distance to work and noticed a tugging, like the brakes were dragging. I was on an interstate. I took the next exit when I started smelling gear oil. Burning!
I pulled into a parking lot and found my front differential empty, and apparently, it was in 4WD (not the transfer case). The cover screws were loose. I tightened them and put in some gear oil I was carrying around. I fiddled with the 4WD shifter, and vacuum hoses until I could turn the front driveshaft by hand. The differential was hot! Then the drag was gone and it cooled down and drove fine.
Just this past winter the 4WD light must have burnt out, or maybe it's the switch. I noticed in the snow, in 4WD, the front end sounded bad, like grinding. Back in 2WD, the front end stayed in 4 for a while.
Today it started grinding louder again, while heading to get a propane bottle filled. I went a short ways then turned around for home. I put it on ramps, and found the front end in 4WD again. I guess it's been in 4WD for a while, but not this loud. I pulled the vacuum actuator off and manually shifted it out of 4WD. The diaphragm seems to be good. But the vacuum is on the engage side. Looking on the net today, I found the vacuum-switch is on the transfer case. I pulled that off and found the pin stuck in. Been fussing with it all day. Ran oil through it, knocking it, bounding that pin in and out. Its starting to free-up! Then found it's like an $8 part on rockauto.

Update on the frame stiffener project...........still not installed!
Not for a lack of effort, actually been working on it for the last three days. Just so many little things needing done has pushed it back and back. So far I've had to modify the stiffeners, frame, and t-case skid. And I suspect the crossmember is next. But, the next step is stripping the rails and stiffeners then weld. Although that will be in a few days, other things more pressing. I do hope to get it done before the weekend, hoping to take both XJs to a local event.

Worked a lot today on the frame stiffeners, and am glad to say the drivers side is stitched in place. Also a bit frustrated the passenger side isn't. Just takes so long to do each step. But i'm gonna spend all day tomorrow trying to get it finished for Saturday. I am pleased with how well the welding went today. Oddly I ran most of the time with the welder turn all the way up. Not once did it burn through and was able to control it better than I thought I would for the first time welding on my back overhead.

Lol don't question getting rid of a front wheel drive "jeep"!!! Lol jk. It is, but she's had our nieces and nephews in car seats in the patriot before and the back seat isn't very deep and the car seat doesn't fit quite the way she'd like. Plus, the ac won't hold charge and the leak has to be somewhere in the dash because we can't see any dye anywhere. And it needs other repairs like struts and other things, and the cost to repair isn't worth it compared to the value of the jeep.

Well yesterday I spent the day @ a wrenching party held by local Jeep club.... Unfortunately there were lots of folks that just liked sitting around and BS... But was able to complete the full rear suspension lift minus 1 shock, which I needed a small Dremel bit for.. Was able to complete that shock and get the rear tires back on within 10 minutes this morning...

Pulled the front axle suspension completely apart, unfortunately some of the arms didn't want to cooperate.. so I was only able to get the arms out, and the new LA crossmember installed, as well as 1 coil & the extended brake lines.. Plan to get back to it again in the morning and mount the brackets for the extended lines, install the other coil as well as the new coil retainers... Then get the LA's installed finally.. If it isn't too late, then I'll go ahead and knock out the OTK steering as well... So far she is definitely looking good... Although she turned out to be a bit taller then my 98 was... but once I get it all leveled out, I'll see if the rear is sitting a tad bit taller then the front (like I think it might be)... I'll pull the rear bolts, and go to the other point on the adj shackles... Either way I'm hoping to have her back on all fours and @ the house by tomorrow night...

Finished the 3 day battle with installing the full IRO 6.5 Long Arm lift kit and IRO double shear TB... driver her home, and will hopefully get a chance to adjust a TB to center up the axle a bit more.. and as soon as I can get the old hardware pressed out of the OTK steering, I'll install it and hopefully tighten up the front end a bit more...
Super jealous right now. Been daydreaming of their long arm kit for a long while. Maybe if i can get my boss to sponsor my jeep... ;) post up some poser flex pics, and soon!!

I'm jealous too... Been looking forward to the LA setup since I first lifted my 98... And even more so since I picked up the parts and have had them sitting in my house for months waiting on a change to get them in the Jeep.. Once I can get everything titied up in the front and aligned, I'll get some poser shots, until I can hit up an open wheel day @ local Jeep clubs property!! Can't wait to flex her out, and see what kind of clearance issues I might have to fight with once I put the 33's on... Got all the front bump stops in, so that should help some... Will have to work on punching the busted nutserts out of the rear so I can install the new rear bumpstops I have.. I can say that once I got the arms and the shocks and everything hooked up, I did a little bit of flexing with the floor jack under the one end... and it was definitely more flexible then it was with the stock arm setup, and the old lift... and that wasn't even the max extent of flexing, just the highest I could get the floor jack to go.. Had I had more time before I needed to be out of the garage I've been using for 3 days, I would have hoisted it up a bit higher using the engine hoist that we used to pick up the rear when we did the rear lift parts...

Got my A/C working again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its been oh, about FOUR YEARS since it has. Huge thanks to Matt, wouldn't be chillin (literally) without his help. Had to change out the expansion valve, dryer, and a couple fittings. A bit of crud in the expansion valve caused it to clog up. Amazing such a small amount could cause a whole system not to work. But all happy now!

The rain we have had kept me from doing what I wanted...

So Saturday I installed a factory cargo cover. Yes, it is red but as hard as they are to find I won't complain. Especially since it was free, my brother got it but couldn't use it so he gave it to me. :D So, thanks to him!

And today, I swapped out my aging rubicon express sway bar disconnects for a used set of JKS quicker disconnects that I got pretty cheap on ebay. Still missing a spacer and need to get a new linch pin as one it came with was bent.

Good timing too. My old ones were getting a little past their prime. Hopefully that'll take care of the clunking I've been getting when I hit the breaks.

Had another little play with the front bar ...

Used to be an ARB non-winch model, that someone modded, to make winch compatible. It had previous repairs on the LHS wing, which was a little odd, maybe from another model or something, either way, it didn't quite match.

So I butchered it!!!!

So my frame stiffeners came in on Friday....
Had 'em delivered to my work, where my only means of getting them home was my dear Honda. I thought it was going to be interesting trying to get them into the car, but they actually fit rather well sliding thru the little "ski door" in the back seat.
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h328/jbchill1/20150410_155706.jpg (http://s1104.photobucket.com/user/jbchill1/media/20150410_155706.jpg.html)

The only problem was that they kept sliding into my shoulder, it was a rather painful drive home....especially in stop and go traffic.
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h328/jbchill1/20150410_163348.jpg (http://s1104.photobucket.com/user/jbchill1/media/20150410_163348.jpg.html)

Every "stop" they would slide over, and dig into me.
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h328/jbchill1/20150410_163334.jpg (http://s1104.photobucket.com/user/jbchill1/media/20150410_163334.jpg.html)

Managed to get them home without allowing them to amputate my arm or punch a whole thru my dash.
Now they are residing on my work bench...

along with a little something else I had them throw into the order.... More on that later.

I just ordered new spacers, lynch pins and lock nuts for my JKS disconnects.. Hoping they come in, in time for me to install the disconnects, before this next weekend... if not, then I'll be running my disconnects for the drive to the Romp In The Swamp 2 that my local Jeep club is doing.. Might have a little bit of clunking.. but at least I'll have the sway bar for the trip up.. Wasn't too expensive either to order the parts through the JKS, was pretty surprised... If nothing else you can get the lynch pins through Tractor Supply.. I got a few from there before i realized I needed to order the spacer anyways.. so figured I'd just go ahead and order up both spacers, two new lock nuts and four lynch pins, that way I know I'll have some spares and good parts ready to go..

Sooooooo I got a little irritated at work tonight and decided to blow off a little steam on my lunch break. How do gearheads blow off steam? That's right.... we go for a little drive.

So I hit the interstate to go up to the next exit and pick up some Wendy's - by the way, that new Spicy Jalepeno somethingerother sammich is guuuuuuud! - ANYWAY... I got on the on ramp and floored it. Aaaaaaaaaand kept it there... for a while. So you know in the older XJs (mine's a 92) how the speedo goes to 85? Well, just 'cause it stops there doesn't mean that it's governed there. PLUS, I never changed the speedo gear after upping to 31's. Yeah, speedometer reads 16.9% slow.

So yeah, moral of the story is.... Jeeps aren't slow... at least not Jeeps with the 4 litre motor.

Yeah I hear that.. I added a few more items in on my order, so that way at least it made it seem somewhat more worth the shipping costs.. lol.. I ordered up two of the spacers, 4 pins and two new lock nuts... and it only raised the shipping cost like $1.50 if that.. lol.. So yeah, ended up paying $16 for shipping on an order that was like $8 in the first place.. was pretty sad.. but at least I'll know that I got the right stuff coming and installed... If I had access to someone to hook up the spacers for me, I would have more then gladly done that.. Especially since I already have new pins from Tractor Supply, and could probably pick up the nuts from there too.. but since it didn't change the shipping much, I just went ahead and threw it all in on that order...

Was prepping for an event this Saturday but... that got postponed for two months due to rain. Who would have guessed rain would shut down a big offroad event. Anyway, when that happened we decided to plan for a run to an offroad park instead. And for the last few days its been pouring with a forecast for more tomorrow we have cancelled it. Maybe hit it in two weeks but have to see. Couldn't get anyone to go with us either so I didn't think going to an unfamiliar park in this weather was best. Oh well, I guess its just more time to plan and hopefully get others to come. But I've been busy anyway...

In the last few days I...

Built a t-case skid plate (will post pics once its mounted), changed the oil, replaced the rear exhaust hanger again (no idea how many times this makes it), fixed the handle on my new cargo cover, built and installed a cb mount for my little cobra 19, and a couple of other little things not worth mentioning.

Just pics of the cb mount. I didn't want to screw into the face of the dash in case I ended up with a different cb or moving this one so a standard flat bracket was out (didn't have one anyway) so I made this one to screw into the bottom of the dash out of 16 gauge steel.

You check fuses in passenger kick panel?

Yeah checked everything I could think or find to check, checked and replaced every relay and fuse I could find, even ones that I knew had nothing to do with starting, still no go... I think it was probably a loose connection, snipped wire or maybe something with the clock spring or something.. either way didn't have the time @ home to work on it and tear into it anymore... And definitely don't need 2 XJ's right now... maybe once I'm @ home in SC... but not right now...

Use a sheet of plywood. Then measure that with an angle finder

Old unbalanced tires caused mine if you haven't adressed that already.

after that i will try tires. my 31s are cracked bad. idk about caster.
new aftermarket WJ uppeer control arms seemed to correct some in the front.
just had an alignment. tires are just expensive :/

Yeah, tires are pricey. I would have them rotated and balanced before you pull the trigger on new tires though. They should at least be able to tell you if your tires are unbalanced or not then you will know for sure.

I put new struts from RockAuto on the rear hatch. Then I tried to use the old ones for the hood, but apparently they were not worn enough! I mounted one and when I tried to close the hood I couldn't budge it. Would have bent the hood right in half before it would have moved.

The hatch would not open all the way, and would only hold about 3\4 of the way up. On cold days it was worse. If that wasn't worn enough, then there's no way I could live with them on the hatch long enough to get them bad enough to work for the hood! Now I'm wondering what other weaker struts I can get to do it with.

Well you guys must not be replacing your struts until they don't hold the hatch up at all! I mounted mine just like that and it would not budge!

Yeah mine were at that point.still a little stiff when i start to close the hood but i mounted them pretty far back on the fenders..http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/04/26/5fd8a350b399060b2e9938dfe53ba21b.jpg

Sweet action Jake. Your rig keeps getting better and better.

I did some trimming to the fender liner and pinch weld on the WK. She's sitting a few inches taller. And ready for new shoes.

Got this for my b-day.

7473

So I wanted to mount it here for a 3rd brake light.

7474

After getting a template made up I cut it out of 16 gauge, bent, smoothed, drilled, tapped.

7475

And a test fit.

7476

And got coated in black. Still gotta wire it in and mount it. I also want to make a cover panel but that'll have to wait till I have more time.

You can see my hands shadow on the tree in broad daylight with the light around 15 feet away.

All I had to do to fit them was cut the back out and seal them in with some all weather sealant. Very nice and really lights up the road and yard. I'll take a pic tonight and post it up.
