Wasn't actually today but earlier this week I finished relocating my trailer electrical plug receptacle. After having bent the bracket it was attached to the bumper with on 3 straight offroading trips, and the fact that the bracket itself was rather thin and very rusty, I decided the relocation was in order.

The rusty spot on the bumper is where it used to be:
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8160/7469791062_f2ea6965ab_c.jpg

How it rode for about a week while I was working on the bracket to hold it more permanently (I actually swapped the rubber bands for small bungie cords right after this pic):
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8156/7469790764_b77e6b5bab_c.jpg

More than enough room in that cavity for the plug to ride and allow the hatch to close:
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8156/7469790764_b77e6b5bab_c.jpg

Brackets I made from some scrap .060 Aluminum from work:
The larger L-shaped bracket attaches to one of the bumper mounting screws and the sits just underneath the surface of the bumper while the flat piece sits on top of the bumper, under the plug receptacle.
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8024/7629701280_0f9664ee62_c.jpg

Finished product:

Close-up:
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8002/7649677426_05a255ee3b_c.jpg

Made sure there was enough room for the cap to open and allow the adapter for the 4 pin plug that many trailers use to fit:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7277/7649676734_f9312827d2_c.jpg

I'll be picking up a 4 pin cable extension just in case the cable from any trailer I may pull doesn't reach to the new location.

When the hatch is closed you can just barely see about 1/4" of the upper metal flange past the lower edge of the hatch. Overall I'm very happy with how it turned out, I didn't have to re-drill or enlarge any holes to allow everything to fit. Just a little wiggling and all the screws lined up!

I bought a bolt, a nut and an air chisel. The welded nut was out in a couple of minutes. Then I used the nut and bolt I bought. You might want to get a lock washer and maybe a large flat washer as well.

I was amazed all 4 of mine came out without any issues for a northern Jeep. I was ready to punch the broken studs out and replace with nutcert (rivnuts).

I used Kroil. It's a bit expensive and hard to find but it works. It looks and smells like ATF + Acetone. I just stuck the little straw in the triangular hole and sprayed till it started to drip out afew times.

I then used an electric impact gun. I think the impact gun was it.

When you use a ratchet, you're increasing the torque as you try to turn the bolt, and it breaks. With an impact gun, it jolts the bolt to get it to start moving.

I use atf/acetone alot and it works pretty good.
I'm not gonna cut a big hole out like most, just drill above the welded nut and soak them..
don't have an impact.

I'll be in the same boat as you as far as replacing parts trying to combat the DW when I get home from this deployment... Hoping I won't have to replace too much, as there are many items I want to replace (like U-joints and such) that I won't be able to afford if I have to spend all my spare money on stopping the DW.. Fixed the loose tilt steering column, kinda involved but worth every minute doing it.

Is there a write up on that issue here?
If not I took lots of pictures! :camera:

No doubt there are several shops around. Some are high and some are shady but some are awesome!

I buy all of mine through the shop space that I rent. I get some great deals with them.

put gear puller on pitman arm. Sprayed PB, swung BFH at it, tightened gear puller. repeat 10x. still waiting for it to loosen up. Since I won't be reusing either the steering gear or the pitman arm (thinking about going with a dropped arm so I don't to do this again in a few months) I'm really leaning towards putting a torch on it.

I popped the dent out in about 15 minutes, because I had to pull the door panel. There's still a slight ripple to the panel, but my Jeep was never a show rig.

Pulling the panel gave me the excuse to start swapping my other door panels on.

Soon as I leave work I'm going to have this repaired a Cillis Car Care off 249.
This happened at an automatic "soft cloth" conveyor type car wash. They gave me the run around saying my vehicle didnt qualify for them being responsible for damages... "5 years old or newer, and no non-factory stock modifications".

So the kid working when i was there didn't know anything about what to do and said to come back to talk to the manager after 11am. I came at 11 and this is a synopsis of the convo...

Manager(mngr): Your car is too old and non stock for us to repair.

Me: How does that have anything to do with my headlights being ripped out??

mngr: your tires are too big and made the cloth wraps not work like normal.

Me: my headlights are obviously infront of the tires, how would the tires have anything to do with the wrappy tall spinny thing going by and tearing out my headlights?

mngr: because your car isnt stock and is older than 5 years.

Me: The machine wasnt working right did your attendant tell you that?

mngr: No, it's working fine.

......

Later, after he reviewed the video,

Me: so did you see that machine stop moving forward with the wraps still spinning on the edge of my grill?

mngr: No, that was a hesitation in the recording.(:bsflag:)

Me: Okay I see that you don't understand what happened. Give me your boss's number, and your corporate office's number.

mngr: I'm not providing you that information. We are not responsible for the damage to your car.

me: "okay, its not a car, it's a Jeep, and I'll find the information online and hopefully you won't hear from my attourney"
(My brother is a Lawyer)

mngr: (As i'm leaving) Look we aren't going to repair your car, but if you want we'll give you some free wash vouchers, of course to use for another car.

me: thats helpful. What makes you think i would want to come back.(then I drove off)

Stupid thing is, the soap and water jets also weren't working in the wash and my Jeep was muddy. So my Jeep still wasn't clean.

Soooo, after about a week, i got an apology email from the corporate office, a free month membership valid for any vehicle for any wash. Then I got a call from the regional manager and he gave me the location of the shop the use for repairs.

This wasn't really "today" but more like 2 weeks ago :p But I finally got around to lifting the Jeep; came up with ~2.5 inches front and rear using some zj coils and xj leaves. I also purchased some used 31x10.50 R15 on Eagle Alloys rims, the rims apparently space the wheels an additional 1.5"? The tires only had about 800 miles on them when I purchased them and they were balanced too!
Once I'm done paying for school I will hopefully buy a 3" kit!
anyhow, here's the result: http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb367/JMadigan12/001.jpg

I usually hand wash mine too with an electric pressure washer (1600 psi hasn't hurt it yet), but lately I've been lazy and going through the automated one at one of my dealerships. Free and easy... and so far no damage.

Hand wash mine every time, gotta make those dents and scratches SHINE. Only reason i go to a spray wash (not drive through) is after wheeling and i need higher pressure. We stopped using drive through washes when we got the roof rack on my moms Zj. Its been modded jeeps and duallies ever since, and they don't fit so well.

I do remember a rental Yukon that we took through one, ended up spinning a rear tire trying to make it up that mega inch high bump thing that holds the front tire in place.:rotfl2:

I got my last of three fans to make for the 3fan setup like dirtbound offroad offers!

Good cause I really don't think you had enough CFM with two fans. Hope you see a big difference with this addition.

mmm who hand washes their jeep? I Enviro-wash mine. When the environment provides the water it gets washed. My jeep is 15yrs old. The clear coat is coming off of the hood. I need to find a color to paint it.

I am NOT a mechanic but I am having SOOOooo much fun learning with my 1988 XJ I saved from the dirt pile.... I am also not very keen on uploading pictures so bare with me.. I hope to get pics up soon....

Be safe and watch out for kids going back to school!!!!!

Went to pick n save last night to pick up a '99-up 4.0L intake manifold. They didn't have any but a friend did spot a 136 amp alternator off a 4.7L V8 WJ that I pulled and I'm hoping to get installed this weekend.

I flushed the coolant system today. Wow. The previous owner(s) reeeally neglected it. And the fact that I didn't keep a close eye on it didn't help either :D. Tons of dark brown rust came out... but I removed the reservoir bottle and the first 3 or 4 fill up and dumps, looked like liquid milk chocolate. I don't have a video of that, but do of the flush

Thanks, previous owner... you suck. - YouTube

Mine was just like that after 2, or maybe 3 years and remember I got mine brand new! I didn't expect it to be like that, that quickly.

389.

Finished lifted my 90, got the 97 ready for the scrapyard, and tool the LTD out on the mountains for the first time. It went places my K10 would never go. Overall I am more then satisfied. I also ordered a custom tag on Friday " 90XJ" no one to take pics out on the trail though. Any one else on WV hit me up.390

Mine over heats horrible as well. I had switch for the condenser fan when I got it and even with that it's still gets up around 230 not sure what would typically cause it on these old jeeps

Took some time today to work on the Jeep trying to get ready for inspection. I took off all 4 control arms. Stripped and repowdercoated, then installed new bushings in the lowers. Swapped out the Skycrapper heims on the uppers with some fresh JJs from Currie. I think my DW is gone now, yay! Rides a whole lot smoother too.
