It is a great mod for a trail rig and not any harder to do than anything else, But I would not do it to a daily driver!!?!?!?

I think having a fuel tank inside the vehicle other than a dual walled fuel cell may be dangerous. I have seen fuel cells used inside a DD but it was a YJ not an XJ.

If you do this, you need to have a well ventilated vehicle, like a YJ or TJ with no top. Early CJs had a tank under the seat and was an accepted thing. However, while I was a firefighter, a lady in town was hit broad side and it knocked the cap loose and pinned her arm under the role cage. The gas ignited and burner to death. If the tank had been somewhere where there was a metal barrier, she probably would be alive today due to the speed we got there and got the fire out.

Yeah a car fire is scary enough without being trapped in one. Bad way to die IMO.

That is why you need a fuel cell for an inside tank.

Why not just go to the junkyard and buy a OEM gas tank skid for like 40$ or less?? or spend a couple hundred and buy aftermarket

i was just thinking of saveing a couple hundred but from the looks of things i'll have to put out the cash (the OEM just not strong enof)

I have a OEM (junk yard) skid for my tank also. I am going to use some 3/8" plate steel I have laying around and weld that to the bottom (and maybe the sides) to make it stronger.

I have seen people take 2 OEM skids, cut the bottom of one off and weld it to the other to get more strenght that way.

That would be my suggestion too. Plate the original skid to save that money that an aftermarket skid might cost. use 3/16" plate and stitch weld it.
