I saw this else where and thought I would post it up here. Seems like a really excellent deal with free shipping to me.
I love my Superwinch EPi9.0, works great.

There was no measurable change in the height of the bumper before or after the installation of the winch. The SuperWinch epi9.0 shipping weight is 111 lbs.

Part 3 (above) in the Superwinch install video. Basically find a tree and winch yourself to it. I don't have a tree saver yet. Maybe I can find something else.

You'll need a tree or something stationary......
Secure cable to tree strap..........reverse vehicle until there are "5" wraps of cable left on the winch drum........lock winch release, put vehicle in reverse and give the cable a good tug in reverse, 3 times......."Good Tugs"......

Thats your initial stretch.......

If alone, respool the cable with the vehicle running, in neutral, parking brake lightly engaged (resistance).......respool in the same manor the winch arrived in, if using synthetic.......the line should be criss-crossed over itself, unlike steel cable......

Thats about it.....and very important to do.

Thanks! I think that is different that what they showed in the video. I'll have to go back and watch it.

BTW, winch fit the Detours bumpers like a glove! Nice job, but I'm sure you are getting tired of hearing that. :smiley-laughing021:

I didn't do this with my first milemarker and man what a bit$$ that was. The cable would coil up when I dropped it during it's first few extractions.

I noticed something concerning while installing the superwinch. There is no fuse on the massive cables that are running to the winch. I'm thinking that if the positive cable cover should rub through and short out the resulting fire, and possible battery explosion would be well very bad.

I've read, so far, that a fuse necessary for the amperage that can be pulled may be very expensive. I guess I could install a battery disconnect switch, but just install it on the positive winch line.

Newbie winch owner, so hopefully you old hands have a simple answer.

No fuse is needed on a winch. The winch should have some kind of on and off switch or maybe it's controlled by the cable controller. My smittybilt turns on when I put the cable in the box and twist it.

Just plug pos to pos and neg to neg and you are done. If you want to put a switch on the cable to disconnect the power source you can.

Oh I'm sure the solenoid takes care of the on and off, but I'm thinking of a short that can occur on the 6 feet of #2 gauge cable that run's from the winch to the battery. If a short happens then the cables, battery, then Jeep are going to burn, at least that is what I'm worried about.

I read that the bumper didn't drop from the weight. Now that you've probably driven the Red Demon, can you tell us how it drives (brakes, takes bumps, etc.), and if the bumper dropped now that the suspension has cycled through?

Thanks!

Here's a tip. Route the cable to the battery avoiding all sharp objects in the way. If it is running along something sharp then get some rubber hose a little larger than the cable and slit it open and wrap it around the cable where it's rubbing so it doesn't chew through the cable. It'll protect it.

You rarely, if ever, have any issues with the winch cables unless it's installed wrong. It'll be fine. ;)

Yeah that's the problem. Where I ran the FAT cables, I have a concern that it will rub. I'm planning on putting some thick rubber to protect it, but what about where I don't know I may have an issue? What about an accident and metal is pushed through. You see where I'm going? I'm going to do some more research. I may go with a circuit breaker instead of a fuse, at least what I've read so far leads me to believe that a circuit breaker will be cheaper than a BIG A$$ fuse.

Well, I ended up with a surprise bonus (small, but welcomed) and my beautiful and loving wife recognized that I had earned it as told me to buy a winch!!
I toiled and toiled between this Superwinch (my personal favorite), the Warn M8000 (on sale for $540), and the Smittybilt XRC8 w/ synthetic line ($450). I ended up going for the Smittybilt w/ the extended warranty. I just didn't want the weight of the Superwinch. If I had bought either the epi9, or the M8000, it would be a while before I'd get synthetic line. So, there ya go. I'll probably take some crap for supporting the Mother Ship (4 Wheel Part/4wd.com/winchdepot).

Ran mine through some 3/4" heater hose on the positive cable. Check it for wear on my quarterly checklist. Never have seen any wear or pressure points on that hose.
