For the last year, or so, I've been interested in getting a skid system for the Gladiator. I first started thinking about this when co-host Wendy put on an invite only off-road event in Big Bear Lake California.

Lockers, 35's and lift were required. One caviout was that if you were on 35's aftermarket skids where highly recommended.

I didn't get to go, but I also didn't have aftermarket skids. This started me looking at skids though. I have bumpers from Motobilt and I'm very impressed with the quality, so I checked out Motobilt.

The smoothness and coverage hooked me. This past November, Black Friday, I bought it.

Shipping was fast! Less than I week!

Two of the 4 piece skid system. I was taking a break from getting everything off the pallet.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. It's easier to order than it is to install. The weight of the center skid was a chore to install but prepping and painting was far more work.
Center skid goes in with 4 bolts.

Looks nice and beefy. How much does that weigh?

I don't know. I asked one of the people that created it, he wasn't sure. Is this shipping weight, or skid plates weight?

Plenty of plate there. I have been thinking about that for the XJ. But I am thinking I want to save as much weight as possible and would have to fabricate it anyway since nothing is standard on it anymore. I have been daydreaming of something tubular instead of a plate
