So the XJ has grown a little since I last posted, it's now sitting on a 6" Iron Rock long arm kit and 35's. As you can imagine the power is down even after I did a 4.56 gear swap. The XJ struggles to maintain highway speeds, after a internal debate on rather to do a V8 swap or not I decided to go with a Jeep stroker. Hoping for similar power as a v8 to help out on the highway and even pull a small dirt bike trailer. So last November I picked up a 98 XJ motor and tore it down to a bare block, sent the block and head off to Cleggs Machine here in central Utah. And got to work ordering parts, the build is a 4.6 stoker. Went with KB Icon 9.6:1 forged pistons .30 overbore, Scat Rods, Scat Stroker Crank and a Cleggs Spec'ed Howards Cam. My cylinder head was no good, magnaflux showed a crack. So a clearwater head was ordered, and had the Machine shop do a port job and oversized the valves along with LS valves and valvetrain. Was then time to assemble and install this guy. First fire up was last night followed by a cam break in and today I put around 100 miles on it and everything seems to be good to go. During the build I installed a high flow oil pump, oil pressure was right around 50psi from idle all the way up to 3,000 rpm’s highest Ive have it so far. No problem with coolant temp but it was pretty cool today at 55 degrees so that remains to be seen. Haven't sunk my foot into it too much yet but maintaining 70 mph is so much easier and taking off from a stop takes a lot less throttle input. I’m quite happy with the build. Any questions about the build id be happy to answer.
