After 20+ years the factory radio decided to stop working, specifically the volume control knob.

I've been looking at the Android double DIN stereos for sometime now but wasn't looking forward to hacking up and more importantly fabricating the bezel to fit the double din unit.
Double din bezels are available for the TJ but I couldn't find one for the XJ. Actually I recently purchased and installed a double din stereo with touch screen in my wife's 2003 TJ.
$80 for the bezel and it looks factory!

Back to the XJ install. The installation went fine. It was a standard radio install, wiring, etc... getting the Chrysler harness and looking up the pinouts online really help make this easy.
I did the harness at the kitchen table while watching TV, 30 minute job maybe.

Mounting the head unit was a bit difficult as compared to the TJ install. I think it's the brackets that came with the head unit.

I had a spare bezel that I trimmed.

With limited adjustment in the brackets, and trimming gone wrong, well this looks like A$$ and not in a good way.

Still it stayed in place on a rough wheeling trip to Barnwell, so it's in there good!

I've been running this for several months now and all is well, but I haven't started the bezel modifications to make a more factory look. I know it's going to be hours of sanding, cursing, and moments of being too high to work. ;)

This is a picture from a post on the Jeep Talk Show Facebook group of a member that installed a double din radio using this bezel.

This bezel from Crutchfield is $30 less than I one I purchased from Amazon for my wife's TJ.

Very nice. Wish they had a kit for early XJs

You could always replace the entire dash with 97+

Yeeeaaaahhh. Sounds like a lot of work. I found a simpler solution. A double din with an adjustable position screen

could even do a 1.5 din with retractable screen to give you more screen in a smaller package

I am skeptical. My dash does not look like that

found lots of android stereos on ebay. for my 91, I am interesting to order 8" one, something looks like this. It seems 1 DIN & height adjustable, not motorized - means good for offroad :p

I just looked up pictures of 1991 through 1995 XJ dashes, no way will that work. They must have a typo or they're ill-informaed

That is what I thought. But you are right. It all could be changed over, but what a lot of work
