Hey All!

Back after a long break. My son now has my 2001 Limited, and I’ve been stuck in a RAV4. Picking up a new XJ for me tomorrow! 2000 Sport, that’s pristine, garage kept, and all of the services are in order etc. Hoping for a great experience owning it.

Looking for a set of Trail Master steel wheels, a solid 2-3” budget loft, a Tuff Net, some communication gear and that’s about it.

Glad to be back.

Thanks. Learning about some issues to address. Have a weird rotational sound that kicks in at 35mph and sounds like a flapping sound, and the engine is hissing from the engine bay forward of the driver. For that at least I’m thinking exhaust manifold.

Exahust header would probably sound like a popping noise. Hissing is more likely a vacuum leak.

On that flapping noise, do you have a tire bounce or steering wheel wobble? Very well could be a tire becoming separated in the tread

Makes sense. It’s quite loud, and right in front on the drivers area, so I thought an exhaust leak with or nearby the manifold.

It drives smooth and I’m not noticing a bounce. New tires are planned , but not quite affordable today. I did have the tires removed and remounted today to get the blackwall outboard, and the sound seems to have lessened. More driving will tell.

The hissing sound was due to the grommet that goes around the intermediate steering column not having been reinstalled. So, it is now, and I now see I have a new intermediate steering column. Lucky me.

Back again. The red Jeep was totaled exactly one week after I bought it, to the hour. After a nice long fight with the other driver’s insurance carrier, I got a settlement and found a replacement XJ. Ended up spending about the same, and got a better Jeep in the end.

Nice slate blue color
Still has the splash guard under the engine, and the light under the hood is still there and it works.
Super clean inside

A few things aren’t working right: driver window switch, cruise control, and the blend door (set to vent and 75% of the air is coming out at the windshield, sagging leaf springs.

:congrats: There are always a few things wrong with a rig that is 18 years old. But low milage for that age and a good find
