My trip to the Big Island

So I took some time off and my family and I went to the big Island (Waikoloa Village, HI). It was our 2nd time there (we were there 5 years ago on our honeymoon), and the 1st time there with the little man. We saw a lot of the same things that we saw last time, except for the volcano.

I also got in touch with the Big Island Off Road Club, and they were nice enough to take us wheeling on the road to makalawena. It was an epic trail that went out to the most incredible beach ive ever seen. It is only accessible by Jeep, or a long and ugly hike. Sean had a VERY well set up JK, supercharged, with everything needed to make it extremely capable. I had..... Well I had a rental JK, and it did surprisingly well. I only scraped it on a few rocks on the way back in.

We also visited the highest point in HI, like 13,600 feet or something like that. I took my dad and sister up to the top of Mauna Kea, which was awesome because my dad has always wanted to go, but my mom would never go with him. Its a crazy drive to the top, and left me a little queasy. We left the little man with Nana for that one lol.

So you escape the cold up north and go to a tropical island only to go to the coldest place on it? Only a wheeler would think to do that.

That looks amazing... Wish I could have had the chance to wheel or at least venture around any of the islands for the short times I ever managed to end up in HI... One day, I'd love to make it back there for vacation... Even more so if I can have some Jeep vacation while there..
