Fixed the wife's car today. It kept dying on her, which of course makes for an unhappy wife. All is good now, but you won't believe what was wrong with it.

88 Ford Crown Victoria, 5.0L engine (which gets 25 mpg in that boat)

What do you think it was?

I'm gonna guess plugged exhaust but that's a pretty wide question. Now, if I'm right it's what plugged it that I wouldn't be able to guess! [emoji14]

No, not even close. None of the usual culprits. Gotta think way outside the box on this one

Hmm, sucked a bundle of chopsticks up the intake? :D

A reference to Chinese parts eh? No, not even. Something only an old Ford would do :D

More like a dinner mishap...

I would venture a guess of some plastic part exploding since ford chose some odd things to make out of plastic but I don't know the 5.0 too well.

I can say for certainty that no plastic was harmed in the making if this FUBAR

Let me guess you took the rad cap off threw out everything else and then put the rad cap on a Jeep?

In an roundabout way. The fuel injection was not working properly

That is the problem, no Jeep parts involved!

Although I wish in a way I had that engine in the Jeep. That big old boat gets better milage than anything else I have

No, plenty of gas. Been a random miss for over a year now. Mechanic said there was nothing wrong with it.

Nope, gotta think way outside the box on this one. Fuel injection, ECM, igintion all tested out fine

When I was a mechanic I had a customer take his 76 ford truck to every shop in town because he would blow engine fuses when he went over tail tracks, he spent thousands trying to diagnose this. It finally came to me, I found a dime in his cigarette lighter cause he kept his change in the ashtray and a dime got into the lighter, which just happens to be on the engine fuse circuit. Turned into a 10 cent problem. Is it like that Steve?

Not quite, but just as dumb. This is completely unrelated to the engine.

Ok Steve, the left rear signal light was the wrong voltage, that’s my final guess!

Heater blower motor feeding stray signals back through a common ground to the fuel injection module. Replaced the blower motor and all is well now. Go figure.

i had a similar experience with a 76 Mustang II. Wife would kill it at an intersection and then it wouldn't restart. I would get there hop in and it would start right up. I was getting near to being banned to the couch for life after replacing everything I thought it could be and mechanics saying there was nothing wrong with it. Turns out the starter was doing the same thing, even when not in use and disabling the electronic ignition module. Replaced the starter and all was well

After much nagging from the wife, she let me drive the car a few times and it took me a few months of driving it and some trial and error to finally get around to unplugging the blower motor. Runs great with it unplugged, plugged it in and ran crappy, so that was finally it
