Is there a junkyard option for a high output / amperage altenator for the GM style altenator on my 1990 4.0 ? I need a low budget upgrade (kinda like my lights but need more juice) Thanks in advance for any help

Seems like I have heard about using a Dodge Durango alternator.

This is about a 2000 160 amp Durango alternator installed in a 1999 TJ. I bet it's the same for a 97+ XJ.

I believe the ZJ alternator is 130 or 160 amp also

This is for a 91-98 XJ, so it may not be right for your rig, but should give you another good place to start...

Correct the alt out of a v8 zj will do ya, be sure you double check connections and such.

I knew there was a cut off on the years so as Mudderoy said make sure!! Before you do this however and certainly if your going to read this link first and consider doing this before you swap, it will pay off even if you dont

Thanks for the link it was very helpful on the wiring upgrade point. I'm still running into the same problem with the altenators being for the 91 up style. I guess I'm gonna just have to find a bunch of small case GM style altenators with high output and test fit them until I either find one that fits or that I can Make fit. Thanks for all your help with this. Its greatly appreciated

You have a CS130 with offset clocking. This alternator is available up to 140 amps or so.
If you do NOT have front tow hooks, you can fit a CS144 with offset clocking.
That alternator can be found in 140 amp versions as well, but it handles it much more gracefully and has the same plugs.
As a plus, aftermarket can kick a CS144 all the way up to 350 amps or so.
The case, however, is much larger.

Thanks, thats the first solid leed I've had so far. But I have another question, what do you mean by "offset clocking"? The part numbers will help me greatly, thanks again.

Don't have part numbers, but offset clocking refers to the mounting holes on the case.
The majority of alternators have the mounting holes at 6 and 12 o'clock as viewed from the front.
If you take a lok at our alternators, you will notice they are both on one side of the centerline.
