Almost looks like it's being pushed out of the fill plug..

That may fix it. If they get installed a bit wonky, can bend the plastic for good. those silly plugs have been the demise of many a 8.25 gears and bearings. that plug was the reason the petty cash racing team had to drop out of a KOH a few years ago IIRC. plug fell out, diff got hot, game over.

I'd go straight to your favorite after market diff cover with THREADED plug and install it ASAP. Solid covers are like $50. seems like cheap insurance to keep your rear end gear oil INSIDE the diff.

here's a stock replacement with threaded plug. please paint over the silly chrome finish
