I'd like to get one of those powered coolers. Anybody have any experience with them?

I was thinking about something like this? just something to keep my milk from spoiling.

I have one similar. Coleman PowerChill. it works pretty good unless it's really hot outside. the inside cooler temp us typically 30-40 degrees cooler than outside. so it won't do really well during the summer outside.

Wow, I've always wanted one of the ARB Fridge-Freezers but I know I'd never be able to bring myself to spend $800 on one.

One like this might be just the thing I've been looking for. I wonder how well it keeps things cold without power and how much energy it draws. Very interesting.

looked at the colemans. would probably go that direction. I'm never out there long enough that I run out of ice in my yeti so been using that primarily. would be nice to have a 12 volt cooler to keep things dry AND cool. haven't definitely tossed some food that got wet in the cooler.

Here is one I am looking at.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZI45YA/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I2AOTIDQU2QVB1&colid=2SQXMUXKVSD7D

It says it lowers 55 - 77° lower than outside temp. The plan is to take out the compartment in the center console and replace it with this. Paint it up etc and I would have a cold one anytime on the trail without stopping or getting into the back

would be cool if they used external 110 power as well, just switch power supplies when you pull into camp.

looks like this adapter is often bought with

I don't know amps and all that buy my diesel truck has 2 batteries. my Coleman drew down the batteries in 3 hours. forgot to run the truck.

as for staying cool, I have a thermostat on mine. the probe runs inside with the display outside. with the cooler unplugged, temps rise pretty quick. maybe a couple hours of cool temps.

I have the 110 adapter so I bring my cooler out to work with me. I work in the oilfield and live in a camper. I keep the cooler plugged in 24/7 for 4-6 weeks at a time. the 12v plug recently melted after about 9 months of use. (running 90% of the time)

I paid $40 for mine on eBay. it was new (scratch and dent special) and worth the $40.

for camping, it would have to be plugged in, inside to be useful.

i will be going with an arb though for my jeep. our last camping trip sucked with wet food (yeti type cooler)

I would love an ARB. but it's bit pricey for me. I plan on doing a few cross country trips this year. I'm just looking for something to keep some food cold for a few days at a time.

Here is an alternative idea for you Nicky. For several days use, I use an apartment sized fridge. I have an inverter in the back and plug it in. The trick is to use some of those blue ice things you put in the freezer and then in a cooler. Just keep them in the ice compartment and let them freeze in the daytime and then unplug at night. Don't open after you unplug and it will keeps stuff good and cold through a cool night. If you do this, get the cheap one that has the freezer in the fridge area with a little door on it

We us it also during canning season as temp cold storage too, so it has its uses other times as well

My wife bought me a cheap one for my birthday and it's useless, you have to put the food in frozen or put ice packs in to help it keep up...

Not sure, the name was on the box but it's not on the cooler itself. Go with a name brand cooler, you'll cry when you pay for it... But you'll only cry once....LOL
