Currently on the family XJ we have plain Wrangler wheels with 245/70R16, along with 1" spacers to convert the lug pattern. 3" lift front and rear. There is more room for a bigger tire, but I don't want to trim or stuff the wheel wells too tight.

I was given 5 17" Rubicon wheels today, like new, and I'm wondering if I can run them, and with what size tires.

We're going to need tires either way before state inspection next month. Can't spend a bunch either.

Our XJ is a silver '01 Limited with charcoal leather interior. I think the Rubicon's would look great.

Thanks for the help. Not my area of expertise.

You can run just about any diameter tire nowadays. Even off road tires come in all sorts of profiles. I would just match the width of the tread to the width of the rim. Then you can go for whatever profile height you want. 65 - 75. Such as 225r70X16

So switching to these new 17" wheels would not be a problem?

It looks like the 245 70 17's would be fine, or even a little bigger 255 or 265.

I don't mind if the speedo reads higher than actual speed. It's already that way now by 3mph. I know that truth, but the teenager who's driving it now doesn't.

Wheels no. If you can clear the tires, go for it
