The 2.8L motor was not one of GMs better engines. They sod them to AMC to put into the Jeeps. I had one and was satisfied with it. It got good milage and enough power to get down the road. Most people that don't like them have two objections. The rear main seal leaks easily and they are underpowered compared to the 4.0L

I found that by putting in Bosch +4 spark plugs, I could gain an extra 1000 rpms on the top end and the horse power to go with it. It is a cheap upgrade. If you are project minded, it is easy to swap in a Camaro 3.4L in its place and pick up about 50 hp.

Replacing the engine is the only way I would have that particuler model. As 4.3LXJ says the engine was way underpowered and prone to more than it's share of problems.

My first jeep had a 2.8 V6. man was that a POS. I spent more time fixing it than I did driving it. It finally overheated and died I kept it in storage for a while be it had 4.10 gears in both axles.

The Chevy 3.4L is an easy swap. It will bolt right in. All you need to do is make sure you get the 3.4 fly wheel or flex plate with it. It will give you a good increase in horsepower and parts are available if you want to up grade it.
