Hey so my ignition cylinder stopped turning so I removed the cylinder and the tried ghetto starting my jeep with pliers and it won't fire the starter. But when I jump the starter it self it will turn over. Is this a common issue in older jeeps? I have an 86 cherokee 2.8 v6... https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170810/623e331acb176fae39237e9ca782df80.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170810/ab4cfc0d94efeaecf5b4bd374d41941d.jpg

Sounds like could be the actual ignition switch (down the steering column a bit)could have gone bad.. I'll say it is a fun time to replace that thing, but I had to replace the one in the old 89 I had three times, trying to troubleshoot a no, nothing happening issue.. so that didn't help with my hatred of having to replace that thing... lol

I think you just aren't moving that rod far enough. If you take the lower dash panel off and remove the bolts holding the column up you acc access the switch
