I recently picked up a couple of light bars. A curved and straight for the price of one. The curved one follows the front windshield curve nicely. Amazon returns. Chinese made with Cree LEDs. This isn't a top priority, but I do want to mount this fairly soon. My question is that I have heard there can be noise problems from wind on the back of the cooling fins. Anyone have any experience with this and know if there is a solution?

nice, but you'll probably have to mount it further back or you'll ger the light directly on the Hood and won't see much

HaHa. I see. Well I do go over 60 and will be driving the XJ 500+ miles to OR next month. I didn't want to listen to a whistle all the way :D

Do you have a roof carrier mounted?

Yes, but I will fab a bracket for it. The stock roof carrier is kind of flimsy

Take door edge stripping and put it on the backs of the fins, it'll stop the whistle. And yes, they whistle a lot...

Do you have a straight or curved bar? How far back is yours mounted?

I've got my 50" straight bar mounted at the top of the windshield and the noise is very minimal at 30-35 mph. HOWEVER... with the variety of bars, vehicles, and mounting locations it's hard to tell you if there will be noise and how much. One of my customers said he had a fair bit of noise and he had my brackets mounted in the same location, with the same type of bar. I will warn of one reason I've deduced to guaranteed buzz is having it tucked right against (say 1/4"~) a more vertical surface like the windshield where wind is funneled right against the fins.

There's a few "solutions" floating around like silicone on the fins, weatherstripping along the fins, and foam or rubber horizontal on the fins. I haven't had the need to try these so... grain of salt.

How much light bounces off the hood in that position Jake?

A fair bit but to be as honest as I can be it doesn't bother me, partly due to mine being a dark blue like yours. It does get worse with dirt and mud collecting offroad but still not bad with how bright things ahead of the vehicle are. But it's not like the old halogens that had that wide glare from the lenses. Our zj has four 6" kc type lights on top and it's much worse. The leds have a tighter beam with less wide glare. I'll see if I can find a pic from the inside.

Got ya a couple pics steve. Gives you an idea of how much light. Also, this is a epistar spot bar. Not the most narrow beam for these things so if yours is narrower the glare would be even less.

Do you have a straight or curved bar? How far back is yours mounted?Mine is just above the top of the windshield, and is 52" straight. My buddy with his mounted just forward of the top of the windshield on pillar brackets had the same problem, and solved it in the same manner. His is 50" straight on a TJ.

Thanks Jake, doesn't look too bad. Plus mine the floods are pointed out from the center. I am assuming that those are what are catching the end of the hood on yours

I have a straight one mounted about 2 inches above the windshield. It's probably noisy as heck. But I wouldn't know. I can't hear much over the squeaks and rattles.

Got the same setup as Xjwheeler. I had to flat black my hood cause the reflection blinded me. As far as wind noise? No clue. Have tube doors, no carpet and no headliner.

Mine is all spot so that's just the edge of the beam hitting there.
