Decided to do the external slave upgrade (PITA getting it good with the internal)
So, I decided as long as I have the trany out (AX15), gonna do a rebuild.

AND as long as I'm doing that, I decided to rebuild the TCase too.
...........and ordered a SYE.

will have to make a thread as I go.

I have factory fsm on that tranny. You might want that. It doesn't come apart like other American trannys

Do you have a link to your copy?
...like a Google drive copy

:keegirl:

I've gone through both of these versions
...as well as a couple YouTube (6 part each) teardown and rebuild.
But, since I haven't touched the inside of a tranny since high school... and that was a late 60's 3 speed,
I'd prefer to read up as much as I can

Help me Steve Help me....

So I pulled the tranny and started breaking it down (pulled the Adapter Housing and Gear Case).

This piece was in the Adapter Housing side ~ What the What is it?
..............more importantly, where does it go when I put it all back together?

It is an oil restriction, goes in the housing to limit the flow of oil back into the main body of the tranny. Not sure if it is really needed as mine has been sitting on my bench for the past year since I forgot to reinstall it when I did mine. It just presses into the housing, I believe in the rear to keep more gear oil by the shift mechanism.

Truth!
Harder yet is going to be getting my balls right...:keegirl:

...does the fsm differentiate which pin and ball is what?
The 2 that I have only let's you know they need to be grabbed with a magnet.

IIRC the balls don't matter which you use. The pins go between the shift rails and need to be assembled as the manual says

Try to keep track of the balls and pins, when I did mine I think the fsm did not mention where one ball went, this ended up in letting the tranny push the 5th gear fork but not pull it out, it was easy to miss, and fairly easy to fix once you figured out that you missed one. But it could have just been me.

Yes, keep track of that stuff. Also helpful to lay parts out in order of disassembly on a bench or cardboard on the floor. Then assemble your way down the line

I was on top of keeping parts straight...
Picked up a divider box with 1"^2 and 2"^2 boxes
...and ziplock for larger stuff.
As well as a clear plastic pain tray liner to catch misc parts.
= Which caught a stray ball. Which is why I was asking.

Otherwise it looks like to skinny pins in the rods and 2 fat pins in the plate holding the rods.
I'm optimistic I'll figure it out...but thought if the fsm had better detail, you could always hook me up

Had to stop by the drug store to pick up some petroleum jelly.
The instructions were right that it makes assembly easier...

:rolleye0012:

Is you slather up your balls and shaft before sliding them in the hole
