Rear axle question

So have a question. my rear axle tag says its a 35 but Im 99.9% sure its a 8.25. what do you guys think.

You are right, that is an 8.25. Better safe than that .01%

Yep, 8.25. My 8 25 has that tag too. I'm sure it means something but seems like a cruel joke for newbies. Lol

Cruel cruel joke to play on folks... Don't think there was a tag on my diff cover... would go check.. but don't have the XJ here... and even if I did, it'd have the Solid covers on it... so won't have the tag.. But yeah... as they said... was definitely an 8.25 for sure...

The guy I picked up from said it was a dana 44, so when I went and looked at it that what I was hoping for. His son told him it was and I got under there and I was like umm did you pull the rear end and I told him what it was a 35 going off the tag. once I got home I started looking cause it still didn't seem right and seen that it was what it is.

just picked it up a couple of weeks ago, and didn't want to start ordering gears and lockers for the wrong axle lol.

You don't know how often I have seen Craigslist ads for a "Dana 44" for Jeeps and then looked at the pics to see a D30 or D35

Don't know how so many people get it wrong. They really don't look that similar, especially 35, 8.25, and 44.

Perhaps the tag actually says 3.55, but was stamped poorly? is your ring/pinion 3.55:1?

Yes the tag is for gear ratio Stock gearing with AW4 / 8.25 would be 3.55
