This is my 3rd xj, 1st one i rolled an messed up bad. That one was an old timer. 2.8l and all. 2nd was a plow jeep most of its life ran good but body and suspension fell apart. My 3rd is this one. A 96 old woman driven 1 owner jeep. 150,000 miles runs and drives like new. A perfect start for a bulid.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170205/1a55d7d6f875b9c85b07b943aac3192e.jpg

:welcome: to :xjtalk1: from Delaware!! That looks like it will be a nice base to build up a nice DD and weekend trail rig... What are your plans as far as lift and other modifications??

I am from Wisconsin, i am not planning on going extreme with it. At this point she needs to be an everyday driver as well. I do a lot of back country camping so it needs to be able to get me to the camp site and back home. I have done a few things with the cooling system already. Larger radiator, electric fans and a high performance water pump. If she doesn't keep her cool i am not going anywhere. Next on my list will be front end protection. if i hit a deer or anything else, again i am not going anywhere. By the end i want 31" tires and some killer traction. What would be a good minimum lift for 31's?

3" lift is the minimum, and a good all around lift

Nah... minimum 6.5' of lift... LOL.. I kid I kid... but yeah like Steve said, 3"+ should do nicely for running 31's.. As far as front protection, what kind of bumper are you looking for?? I would say check out Affordable Offroad (https://www.affordableoffroad.com/product-category/jeep-cherokee-xj-84-01/), they are in PA, and have awesome customer service and quick shipping. I have their winch front bumper w/ stinger, and love it.. very beefy, and the only thing I've hit was lightly tapping/scrubbing trees on the trails..

I can get steal very cheap and i can weld. I want to do a simple bumper/guard style. Like the old school military trucks. My rocker panels are kind of rusted so i want to trim them off to the bottom of the doors and fill in the space with heavy steal tubing and fabricate it to the bottom of the jeep like a good nurf bar.

I had to do the same. If it the one that screws under the center console cover and goes over the parking brake handle?

If you have a passenger that is not too big, you can mount that to the passenger side of the console in front of the seat instead. I found that mine limited the parking brake handle too much

I finally got Photobucket to work. Here is mine. I cut the bottom off of it even with the bottom of the cups to make it fit better. Pay no attention to the tools and stuff I didn't put away before taking pic

That's a theft deterant, most people would see all them shifters and be like, wtf??. Hahaha. The cup holders a good idea but my wifes often with me. I cut a hole in the holders so i could still adjust the mirrors. I am going to see if i can adjust the e break cable so it works better.
