Thanks a lot!

I found you guys while ( BUM Bum bum) looking up issues with my jeep. By the way thanks already! My jeep is a 99 XJ... and I am not the first owner. Meaning to say it sat in a grass field in Scotts valley for several years... my parents found it for sale several years ago and aside from the bad tires and the rust underneath it, it ran rather well. So my father bought it with the intention of fixing it up for a weekend warrior kind of off-road vehicle. Then while my mother was driving it she got in an accident on a rainy night, my father came to inspect it and failed to notice the hole in the radiator or that it was dumping fluid. He gave my mother the "OK" to drive it home, long story short it developed an engine knock. So they sold it to me for next nothing since I needed a vehicle anyway, and I took up the project. I was given the same engine out of a 96 Grand Cherokee from a family friend and have been rebuilding it for a little over a year now off and on. I am finally at the point to start rebuilding it but as one does with rebuilds of this type I am still running into issues. Hoping to get some insight and hoping I might be able to help spread some in the future.

Awesome right now I am trying to find something that tells me how to determine what my front axle is... is it the same as the back? With the size shape and logos? Also is the Chrysler 8.25 descent? Or should I look into replacing that before lifting it? I feel like its little more than a stick for the body to sit on top of...

Front will be a high pinion Dana 30. Rear will most likely be a 29 spline 8.25. But to be sure send a pic of the rear diff cover and we can tell right away

Yep that is for sure a HP Dana 30, and the rear is a Chrysler 8.25..

Yea I was fairly sure about the rear due to another thread... wasn't sure about the front thanks for the insight! Now on the rear that cap in the center... its not on very tight... that makes me nervous. I can spin it back and forth... that's bad right? Plus is this a decent platform to begin a build? Or should I include new axles in the build... before the BUILD?

As far as the cap, I'm assuming you're talking about the little circular rubber cap on the right side of the rear diff cover?? If so that is just the fill port for the cover... it is going to move like that, so long as it stays in securely and doesn't fall out or even worse fall in... you're good... You can always go with some upgraded diff covers for added protection, and most of those have caps that screw in caps that are solid... The axles are not bad at all for starting a build off of... and you can always upgrade them later down the road with different upgrades and add-ons... or upgrade to even beefier axles later down the road if your needs require..

Yes, that is the infamous rubber plug. Not a fan of them myself
