89 with tilt steering. The steering is catching slightly when turning either way from center. I'm afraid it will catch hard enough to stop the wheel from steering. From the sound of it, the problem is close to the flex point in the tilt, but changing tilt of column does not change behavior.

Any idea what may be wrong in there? It's my daily driver and I can't just rip it apart w/o parts at the ready to replace them. I plan on doing exploratory surgery tomorrow.

Thanks in advance.

I think it is probably the joint in the steering shaft. They can wear out and cause the steering wheel to sort of flop around. It is replaceable

Is it dangerous?

I just watched several youtube vids about column repairs on these trucks. Looks doable. :shug: I've had a non-tilt column apart on a '74 J20 and it looks a little familiar.

Not dangerous, but annoying. Just one of those things that happens in the Saginaw tilt columns
