Hey!
Anyone ever do the stock XJ tire mount swap?

I have the '89 XJ with the rear tire tailgate swing mount.
...............* if only I could have added "doo-hickey", I'd sound real technical.
I know I need to swap the bumper as well... not a problem.

My question is related to the upper mount on the right side rear quarter panel.
Sorry, no pic's at the moment....
............:keegirl: "doo-hickey" mount?

It's 2 star screws to pull it off. Which I've done before to de-rust and paint it.
I believe there is additional support inside the panel where the upper hinge piece bolts to the body.

Is that support going to be in the '93 that I'm going to put the spare tire "doo-hickey" swing mount?
:watermelon:

Sorry :bang: doo-hickey is just stuck in my head.

Anyway, do I need to deal with extra support?

Yes, I have one. There is a plate that goes inside to run the screws into

so the inner plate and the outer plate.
No extra support in the body?

:bacondance:

....when I did the rust work, the inner plate comes out without too much effort.

There did not appear to be when I removed it. But I am now going to add some steel to support mine. I had a little mishap on the trail and it needs repair

Especially when it involves bracketry thats going to have the weight of a spare wheel hanging off it ... and bounced around offroad.

Just have to finish redoing the tow wiring to this bumper.

...still have to pull the bumper end pieces from the old and install on this one.
Also, the strip between the bumper and the tailgate needs to be replaced.
With the tow bar, I had to go at it from above to unbolt the inner 2 bolts on each side.
... haven't figured how to put it on and access those from another angle...

Gonna drink a couple beers and ponder it. :smiley-sleep027:
