Some of you may have seen Jon's message on xjtalk chat...

<prerunner1982> just totalled the XJ in a head on collision

Here is an update from his wife on facebook...

After a very long emotional evening yesterday woke up feeling very grateful to God for his presence in a situation that could have been much worse. Jonathan was involved in a head on collision with a 17 year old boy. Both walked away with no major injuries. Both vehicles are totaled and I did take Jonathan to the ER. He has no broken bones but is extremely sore. There was also a time where God told me to be very compassionate and show mercy to the 17 year old which then made the teen drop to his knees in tears. I am just really grateful for God's protection over everyone involved. It could have very easily been much worse.

Thanks. Pretty bummed about the Jeep. It was in great condition and drove great. Hopefully the insurance company will pay well and I will be back in a Jeep shortly.

I would seriously consider keeping the jeep and repairing or parting it out.

The truly sad part of this is Jon will be doing his "Day of the Dirt" run in a Honda civic.

Will salvage what I can and sell the rest. Hoping the engine didn't take any damage and will swap it into the 93 project XJ.

I think you could fix it pretty easy. Might need a chain and a tree for some of it. ;o)

Jon, glad you are OK. Could be fixable, but the main thing is that you were not hurt seriously

Good to see you climbed out of that with no more than bumps and bruises.

Take it easy and rest up.

Goood LAWRD!
SUPER glad your ok Jon,
Glad you were able to walk away.
Sad news about the Jeep, but man, thats nothing compared to loosing a limb, your ability to walk and talk, or worse.
Stay positive, and take the doctors orders bud.
You'll be wrenching on that 93 before you know it.

Had a friend put it to an insurance company in a similar deal. Fully restored FJ40. They wanted to pay out like 1800. He said I've got 15000 in it. I think they settled on 12,000. He paid them 1800 and kept it.

Tell them what you want for the vehicle. ALL $$ spent on it. Every upgrade, include labor costs to install, your time isn't free. Add it all up. Let's say its $7500. They're going to low ball you, cause its an older car with a bunch of miles on it. If they offer you 1500, I'd be surprised, likely lower. Counter "I've got 7500 in this thing, not taking less than that."

The key is to be able to hold out until they're tired of dealing with you. EVERYTHING is negotiable.

And when I hear "totaled, head on collision" I was thinking much MUCH worse. glad you're ok.

Very glad you are alright Jon! It sucks about the jeep but it did it's job and sacrificed itself for you. Hope you get it back and it turns out well! Feel better bud! Thanks to God!

I think they both saw a $5 bill and drove to it as fast as they could. :rolleye0012:

I guess if your definition of survived is bent and leaking then sure it survived.

WTF is it with 17 year old boys driving trucks hitting people I know head-on??? My dad, April 3, 1997 hit by a 17 year old in a chevy. My friend 3 years ago same thing. Now Jon??? Glad you're ok, bud!

Tried to see if I could get the busted Jeep back on the road, at least temporarily to no avail. The driver's side of the rear axle is shifted back, I had hoped the shifting hadn't gone back that far. I clearanced the front fender and when I went to jack it up to put different tires on the front I noticed my driver side control arm bracket on the axle looked something like this.. (not my pic).. at this point I decided it wasn't worth the time to jack with it.

One year of AAA will be less than the towing fee, unless you have friend with a trailer.

Don't need a tow or a trailer....

If it is just the bracket, those are easily fixed if you have access to a welder. You can buy the pieces to fix that. Those brackets are kind of flimsy anyway

I don't have a welder and though it was a good vehicle it was only a 2wd. I don't have the time or desire to try and fix it. The fender is pushed into the door, the door hits the B-pillar, the rear axle is out of square, and I am sure there is more.....

Besides... I still have a 93 2 door 4x4 waiting for axle and lift install.

Why isn't the 93 done yet, sheesh!! :smiley-scared003: You've had a week already!! :smiley-scared003: I kid I kid!! At least you do have a "backup" to move over to and build up and you were overall ok coming out of it!!

Sounds like it needs a bunch of time on a mayrack,

... and even then it probably wont be straight enough to be happy with, over the long term, as a daily driver.

Get what you can off it, give it a pat ... and send whats left on its way.

I'd like to see some pics of that 2dr getting some attention ..
