ok guys I'm swapping my trans and t case out of my 96 cherokee into my 2wd comanche. my question is does any one know how the indicator light system for a NP242 t case works? i need to figure out how it works so i can wire up the indicator lights up when i do the swap. i assume that when you change gears in the t case it tiggers a switch that turns on the light when it engages.

so can any one tell me how it works so i can figure out how to wire up my lights?

From the information I've found the 96 (the info I saw was for a 231 but I assume it's similar for the 242) has a sending unit on the top of the transfer case. Now, if your mj is a renix era model (87-90) I think it may be vacuum controlled off the CAD (Central Axle Disconnect) unit on the front axle.

The 231 had the switch controlled by the CAD in early years. Later it was a switch on the tcase. The 242 has the switch on the tcase too. The trick is that you need the appropriate light in the dash too in this instance. If so, then is just a matter of connecting the wires
