I have a few concerns and questions about a 4.0 swap in my 93 xj.
First off mine has a zj 4.0 in it already, from a 94-95 not sure. .well it blew a headgaskets yesterday on the way home from work.
So my questions are will a newer (2004) 4.0 work in my 93 Xj? I know I'll have to switch some sensors around and front pulleys? But can a distributior be installed in a distributiorless 4.0? What about crank sensor?
Any help is welcome.
I've found a 04 4.0 with less than 15k miles cheap. Reason for my questions.

No there is no place to install a distributor. I believe the 04 has a crank position sensor, but where I do not know.

1. Depends on which Jeep model the '04 engine is coming from. Yes if it's from a TJ, no if it's from a WJ (different engine mount/accessory mount bosses).

2. Your distributor will bolt directly into an '04 block where the cam position sensor from an '04 model would normally reside on the passenger side (same place as a regular distributor). The crank position sensor will go in the usual position on the front of the bellhousing at 1 O' Clock (viewed from front).
