I have a 92 jeep 4.0 5 speed. Everytime I drive in 1st and 2nd and 3rd gear the rpms drop and almost stalls out. What could be the problem ??

So I am still a little confused. You are driving and you put the clutch in to what, shift? Then the rpms increase while you are shifting?

So it is still in gear I take it. If so it sounds like your clutch is worn out

If I am reading his posts correctly, it is still in gear when it does this. If so, his clutch is worn out. If I am reading it correctly

Sounds to me that the problem is while driving and the trans is shifted (into 1st, 2nd or 3rd gears). Once, in those 3 gears and hitting 1 - 1.5k rpm is reached, the engine almost stalls. Apparently, this doesn't happen, or is not perceptible, in 4th and 5th gear.
Is this a accurate statement of the problem ?
When the rpm recovers, does it jump up to where it should be, or does it climb up slowly ?
Your profile shows your mileage as 1, how many miles on the XJ ?
Has there been any work done on the drive train in the recent past ?
And on the just wondering side of things, have you checked the oil level in the trans ?
