So, ive been racking my brain on tires and wheels for my Xj for the last like 2 months. I need something different/bigger/more aggressive (or 2 out of the 3, lol). My head hurts from looking and debating all day every day, so i am seeking some advice from you guys. My budget is around $500, so 4 new tires at $200/ea is out of the question.

I currently have 245/75/16s (2) MTRs, and (2) Mild ATs. I need something agressive, and also something that can handle snow if i choose to not run my (225/75/15) snow tires. Ive been pretty set on buying a set from XJ-Jake for the last month or so, they are 30x9.5x15 Maxxis Bighorns on TJ Canyon wheels, but my worry is that if i go with 30s, they may be too small with my 4" of lift.

So ive broken my options down to the following:

1. Buy Jakes wheels and tires and call it good.

2. Look for some 32s or 33s with wheels.

3. Order 2 Treadwright Guard Dogs (245/75/16) to match my other 2, and use the rest of the money for new parts - this would require me rounding up a new spare.

4. Find some 31x10.50s and order up some D-windows for $40/each

5. I also found some 32x9.5x15 Super Swampers on steel wheels with 3.75" BS, but those wont work so well in the winter, and although its not a daily rig, bias tires may not be a great idea. *Would also require me finding a spare as well.

Heres Jakes tires:

Here are the 32x9.50 Super Swampers:

Having owned a set of swampers, there are some things I learned about them. First, they are a lousy road tire. They wear fast, and are really noisy. Second, they slide easily on pavement (rolled my first XJ because of this). Third, they ride rough until you make them round again in a few miles. Fourth, due to a very stiff sidewall, they can loose a bead when it wrinkles funny on the uphill side.

But having said that, very good off road tire, particularly in mud

Well my Xj will be in minimal mud, if ever........ But this is great advice. The Super Swampers are no longer an option :D

My other (and final) option would just be to buy some 265/76/16s for my current Moab wheels, and just run them. This would also require sourcing a new spare tire and wheel.

How do the 245/75/16s look with the lift? They equate to about 30.5" tall by 9.7" wide so they aren't going to be much different than XJ-Jake's 30x9.5x15 tires and wheels.

I would say either go with Jakes or buy the two Treadwrights to match what you have. You could always keep one of the ATs you have as the spare.

They look pretty good as it sits, although the front looks goofy with the mild all terrains lol.

Im only at 3" about now. Im going to be going up another inch or so as soon as i find time to install my parts. Thats what im worried about.

I know those wheels look sweet on my jeep with 33s, but i dont know about 30s.

Heres an example with the identical wheels and 33s. I personally really like it.

Gotcha, I thought you were already at 4" of lift. I will be in this situation soon as well.

since 4 out of your 6 options are considering 30-31" tires though I will still stick with my recommendations, how much difference can it be going from 3" to 4"? :D
