Hi guys,
Bit of a name from the past. :) I received one of the 'we haven't seen you in a while' mails, so
thought I'd stick my head in again, say hi to the guys who remember me, hi to all the new members, and give you all an update. :) As I'm posting this, you'll probably have guessed I'm still listed among the living. :D
I wake up breathing every day, so pretty much anything after that is a bonus ! lol The rest isn't so good though. Over the past year, MS has NOT been kind, or even subtle. TBH, it's kicked the sh$t outta me. As some of the older members on here may remember I was forced to give up driving and sell my much loved '97 Cherokee in Jan 2015. Shortly after that, the MS kicked up at least 2 gears and done a proper job on me. My legs are 'dead weight' now and I've no feeling from the waist down. I've been bed bound since Jan '15, and due to the fatigue associated with MS, even transferring to the wheelchair leaves me so exhausted, I've no energy to sit in the damned thing ! All this isn't any big surprise, it was on the cards from I was diagnosed, I just chose to ignore it, as it really didn't suit to face it at that point. :) Don't get me wrong though, I'm NOT complaining, I've said before, there are a HELL of a lot of folk who have to deal with MUCH worse than I do on a daily basis, the same still applies. I'm not in any pain, I just can't move much. :) I will say, it hasn't been easy adjusting to the changes, but as I said at the start of this post, if I open my eyes in the morning, that's an excellent start, and anything after that is a bonus. :D I've got my partner, and a small tribe of animals (a dog & 7 cats) who are all healthy, so life is good. :D
Here's a reminder/first look at the XJ just before it was sold.

Glad to hear you are still around Phil. Still sorry you had to sell your XJ. Did you ever get your RC car done. I know you were putting quite a bit of money in it. It sounded really cool.

We love hearing from you. You're a true XJ believer. Hang in there, they are doing amazing things with STEM cells, and I'm not talking about lab rats, I'm talking about people.

Cheers guys. :)
Yeah, they've been been working in stem cells in the uk too, there's been some excellent results. They've harvested stem cells of ms patients, they wiped out the immune system with chemo, then 'rebooted' after reintroducing the stem cells that have been targeted to re myelin the damaged nerve pathways. Anyone who's had this, has gone from full time in a wheelchair, to walking in a relatively short space of time ! The slight downside to this is, once the stem cells have done what they should, they keep doing it, and it has been causing tumours to grow.
The thing is, the way I see it, the body should be able to do this itself ! The stem cells needed are produced in the brain, and/or bone marrow. The medicinal profession know we use only a very small percentage of the brains potential, so the brain should be capable of rebooting the immune system, and assigning the stem cells to repair the damage, AND switch them off once repairs are complete.
So, anyone know where I can get the full schematics for the brain ? :brokenpic:

I think they are still mapping that one Phil. But I applaud your attitude. The whole disease is really weird. I read something the other day about auto immune diseases, some breakthrough over here, but I cannot remember it now. It didn't have anything to do with stem cells though. Something about the identification process of of the immune system. It had to do with antibodies and so forth. Wish I had paid more attention now.

Glad to hear you again bro. I believe scientists soon will discover almost everything required and doctors do great things with stem cells, like we do maintenance on our XJs

Similar stuff for cancer. Immune system doesn't identify malignant cells. Once you reprogram tcells and put them back in the body, they go crazy on the bad ones. Can kick it's ass in no time. Tests are going well.

Phil, your attitude and outlook is amazing. Hope they can make progress for ya. Good to hear from you

My mom was up to be one of the first people to get the trial vaccine to do this for aml leukemia patients. Passed all the tests but insurance said no though. So she went for the stem cell transplant. Haven't heard how it's doing but her old doc was one doing the trial, might have to catch up with him and find out.
