I'm trying to make my cruise control work. My 99 4.0 auto 4X4 doesn't even show the light on the dash when the button is pressed. I have tried 3 sets of salvaged switches so I am not thinking that's the problem. My thought is to check for a short in the clockspring.

here are the pinouts:

Provided I safely remove the airbag and unplug the entire clockspring so its 100% isolated is it possible me running a continuity test can ruin it? Also Im 99% sure one you pull a clockspring off its done(unless there is a way to keep it from unspringing) so if this is the problem should I replace everything that lives under it?

Sorry John, I'm no help. My clockspring is still flashing 12:00. I have no idea how to set it.

I was having issues testing the clockspring so I decided to bypass it. I had a spare set of wires and switches laying around so I removed the green plug off the end and I plugged them into the appropriate holes in the column harness. Now the green cruise light works so Im going to say I think the clockspring is shorted. Im most likely going to buy a new wheel and airbag from a Grand Cherokee so I can get those audio controls. I plan to use those buttons to control lockers or lighting.https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1518/25834636613_b7f109c843_k.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/FmVgpc)Untitled (https://flic.kr/p/FmVgpc) by John Welsh (https://www.flickr.com/photos/134420787@N02/), on Flickr
