#1 upgrade the harness. You need more current flowing to the lights. I used the LMC Truck harness.

#2 Sylviana Silverstars are a big improvement.

I did the harness on the 99 XJ my daughter drives, and the 03 TJ my wife drives. They are very happy with the upgrades.

On my 98 XJ I did IPF housings and 80/110 watt bulbs along with the LMC truck harness. Mine are brighter than the ones on the 99 and the 03, but not $160 brighter!

I did the IPF bulbs with inexpensive H4 housings. After eight years, I am still happy with them

I'm running the upgraded harness and silverstars and it's a great improvement without going up to your waste in cost. I do plan on going with h4 housing when one of these blows but I've been waiting 11 years and they just keep going!

Like mudderoy said, if you do anything do the harness. It's the cheapest upgrade and you can do high output bulbs without it anyway.

From a safety, and performance, aspect,

... the XJ needs a wiring harness upgrade/mod.


Old bulbs / sealed beams dim with age ... so anything new that you fit - will be better ... and more so if you do the harness first.

Mine got a homemade harness and 80/100 bulbs. Thankfully, the export models got fitted with decent housings at the factory.
