Recently someone was asking how thick the metal should be for a d-ring mount in chat. This is one of the reasons we ask that you post these type of questions so everyone can benefit from the answers (and the question). ;)

Here is what Mark (DetoursUSA) did for my bumper.

8875

8876

I need to measure it but I'm guessing it's 1/2 inch.

Nope. It's 3/4" on both the DetoursUSA and JCR bumpers.

3/4 and up I'm ok with. It's all these sellers out there using 1/2 that is a little skittish for me

I agree. I can't remember off hand the distance between the typical shackle loops but whatever it is, take off an 1/8" for fitment. Since its so much force in a small area keep it thick, and don't thin out the metal around the hole too much either.

I would worry more about how its tied in than the thickness where the D ring is hooked. Muddy you got a pic of the back side?

I agree. I think I would trust a 1/2'' thick tow point that's welded on the front and back more than I would trust a 1'' thick tow point only welded on one side.

Mine front and rear are 1" X 2" using a 3/4" D ring welded on 1 side only and haven't pulled them off yet. You put a good weld on them they aren't going anywhere.

No, but I can take one.

Think these are thick enough? HA! They are 1x2x5 and will be heavily welded at all points of contact.

you're gonna need stiffer springs to run those!!
