Factory rack. Loading it up with 125lbs. of kayak. Need to load it up with 180lbs of kayak. Someday I'll figure out a trailer, but not right now.

The manual says 150b limit, and the cross members seem flimsy to me.

What options do you all like for aftermarket cross members that use the factory rails that can handle more weight?

Add more crossbars - and distribute the weight better.

or ... not that the XJ really has much in the way of gutters,

... ummmm googly googly ... ahhhh ... U.S. translation ... driprails,

You could use some crossbars, with mounts something like this ....

I must be part auzzie, I use gutters...

I also second the adding of more cross bars. They can be had for cheap at the junkyard, easy to install, and obvious reasons add durability.

Also I just wanted to add. Keep in mind the change in weight distribution when driving with that much weight on top. ;)

Sent via messenger pigeon. I talk, he types.

Thanks. Will do. We don't have to travel too far to use them. I'm seen people haul as many as I want to, but I'm not sure they're doing it with a factory rack.

Im playing with the idea of joining 2 rear halves of an Xterra rack or if Im really lucky at the junkyard a Frontier front to an Xterra rear. Im sure holes would need to be drilled and some holes covered but it seems like a better setup. Xterra rack is rated at 150 but seems better built than XJ.

That, I would like to see.

Me too. I liked the Xterra roof rack a lot.
