Ok I need help! Rebuilt my 07, escape cd4e, put it back in and no reverse! [emoji22] tries to move forward in neutral and park. I have replaced the neutral safety switch, Internet said that might be the problem, no luck there. I have talked with a tranny shop, buddy said the main valve might be the problem, but I'm am kinda swimming in strange water here. I have to pull it back out as I want to make sure the front drum is aligned properly, found some literature that said to make sure the holes were properly aligned for proper lube.

But.... Dammit I need help! Want this out of my shop so I can work on other projects!!!

So... Can anyone help???

I think the advise you got on pressure is spot on. I know the local tranny rebuilders don't touch them. They send them out. The people that do work on them bench test them for pressure and function. I think it might be worth getting an FSM. Let me know if you cannot get one and I can find you a source

I tried to get one, but Amazon would not ship it to me in Canada.

Paul was just here. He provided the source for the last one we got. We are going to check if thee is a difference between Canuck and Yank Trannys

Pook, I think ballsy may be more fitting. Sounds like you've DONE TRANNIES before (lol! pun intended) but I wouldn't touch one (a transmission) without the right info.

Everything went fine tearing down and rebuilding, no issues but I know u missed lining up the reverse drum and lube hole, I like the challenge, I'll figure it out!!!

Did you replace the bushings? If they are too loose, it won't build pressure

... and I always thought I would like a ford escape or the mazda .. :p

:D

Been googling since you posted ...

... and it seems that cd4e gearbox has a history of being ... ummmm ... delicate ??

Dont know anything about it myself ... but did you find all the youtube rebuilds in case there was something useful in them ??

Yup replaced everything. Torque converter, drum etc... Ya I've been googling like crazy too. I'll figure it out! Once I get over my back injury I'll pull it and threaten it until it works!

Ok last few days I have pulled the tranny again, set up everything as per the astg manual and reinstalled it.

And now I have no forward or reverse! Bench tested great. But it seems like the pump is not building pressure, there is no change in engine noise in any gear, I did not exactly prime the pump when I reinstalled everything, but can't really think that it can't prime itself.

Any thoughts???

Disconnect the linkage and shift by hand and let it click in on its own. That or else the pump needs to be wet to prime

Ha! I win!

The z rod that connects the linkage to the main valve came off, took the pan off, replaced the z rod, put it all back together and boom works great!
Now to put insurance on it and fully test it!

Then I can get the garage clean and start another project!
