Exhaust Piping 2.25 to 2.5

So I've got a stock xj & I'm looking to put on a high flow cat & new muffler. I called 2 local shops to get bids for the work & got 2 completely different responses about what they can do. I'm supplying the cat & muffler b/c I get a great deal(cost) on them. I just asked for a bid on installation, new 2.5" piping & mounting brackets. One shop said $140, not bad I thought. But the other said they couldn't do 2.5", it would have to be 2.25" because it won't fit over the rear axle, and if they did use 2.5" it would rattle like crazy. Now admittedly I'm not a mechanic but does this make sense to anyone? Surely 2.5 works just fine & that 2nd shop is just being cautious.

Just use the $140 bid. I am running a full 3" in front of the cat and all the way back. It can be done. Kind of close, but it works well
