I've tried and failed to put a 40 tooth speedometer gear into my Atlas.
I'm going to try one of the inline electronic calibrators and was hoping some one has tried one of them.

What's your problem with the spedo gear install?

Yeah, I have to ask that too. I have not only installed it when it was new, but removed and reinstalled it when I took the synchros and detents out. Do you have the right style gear?

Normally you slap the new gear on the VSS and pop it in the transfer case tail shaft housing then rotate it to the marked position for your gear. It meshes with the worm gear on the tail shaft and everything is copacetic. With the 39 tooth and larger gears the instructions are to put the gear in the tail shaft housing tilting it so it goes on the backside of the tail shaft gear. Then put the VSS Housing in. I've tried both and the former I could not get the VSS in all the way. And the latter I could not get the gear under the tail shaft. I also tried putting the gear in the tail shaft housing then the VSS but when done I had no speedometer reading.

I have seen it. I have never had any trouble with that on my atlas. It uses the same stuff as our 231 cases. I have a 38 tooth gear I have had in mine. Not sure why this 39 tooth gear should hang up

Actually I'm trying to put a 40T in. 4:88 gears 33" tires.
