I got a stock 01 XJ. Thermostat is stuck open right now & im about to replace. Any harm going to a 180 or should I just stick with 195? I'm thinking about putting on a CAI, 62mm TB & full exhaust in the next year, should that be a deciding factor?

Either should be fine, but you may be a bit colder during the winter months as it will take longer for the coolant to heat up and that means cooler air from your heater. I wouldn't go below 180 as your computer may start to complain.

Yes, either is find. Why are you thinking of a 180? Is your Jeep running hot?

The previous owner put a 160* in my XJ. If you like your heat when it gets cold, stick with the 195*. Im stopping to grab one on my way home to put in tonight since it sucks driving without heat lol

Jeep def doesn't run hot. I'm just thinking cooler is better especially if I redo the exhaust & add a CAI & TB. However I do want heat in the winter & I'd like to be able to defrost my windows.

Both thermostats will allow the engine to heat up to 180*, and provide 180* heater temps ... in the same time frame.

... its the 195* ... that takes longer to get up to temp .. ;);)

If you have a 100% cooling system, cool enough weather, all your ducks in a row, and the gods are smiling favourably,

... you should end up with a running temp of about 190ish ... after fitting a 180* t'stat.

... generally tho, the underpar XJ cooling system, doesnt have the capacity to hold the running temp, at that temp ... and the temp gauge typically flip flops between 180ish and 210ish.

I split the difference, and run a 188 - 192* t'stat depending on what the shops have at the time,

... but due to U.S. parts marketing strategy of selling, XJ thermostats - instead of, thermostats that fit an XJ ... You may have to hunt around a bit - to find a 190* version, over there.
