And is it better to use RTV high temp copper on the cover or a felpro gasket. Also im going to change the T case fluid while im at it so is dexron III ATF the correct fluid its a 231 transfer case. Any tips, tricks, or advice are appreciated thanks.http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12/28/0e7d3103a0db73c4cc2ec8dd2a489583.jpg

I went with 75w90. It's a bit more common, and is actually the recommended fluid for these. It's hard to find without the Lsd additive but won't hurt anything if you don't have a limited slip. It's also recommended to run 75w140 in the rear if you tow but I don't tow and I like carrying one bottle for my spare for both axles.

The gasket really isn't necessary and is a waste of money. I went with ultra black rtv. You'll want something oil resistant. Also, you can go with the Lubelocker gasket which is reusable (not sure how many times though, I bet not a ton) so you don't have to deal with scraping the gasket surfaces. There is a higher buy in though.

Dexron III is perfect for the 231. Been running it for years.

Every couple years should keep it nice. Unless you drive it an insane amount. Around 30k miles. Of course you can check it more often though, about every 3 months to make sure it's clean not burnt, and no metal specks. Also change the diff fluid if you submerge the axle. You don't want water mixing with it for long.
