While admiring a coworkers XJ I noticed the right rear tire is rubbing in the leaf spring. On the left side there was about 1 inch clearance. Any ideas?http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11/16/feb622d09e710b4303985647779b89e8.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11/16/6106ecd6129fdb653ef6d898843d2af7.jpg

Are the rims the same? It looks like one has more offset than the other.

Aren't both pictures of the same side ? Looks like to me.

Any rear axle work done on the vehicle? Although I doubt that the spring mounts moved. What size tires ?

Are the rims stock?

If oversize tires, were the rim offsets and backspacing changed ?

Yes both pics are of the same tire.
I was told they are factory rims . I'll investigate further and get tire size info..
If there was a problem with the diff wouldn't the axle go out not in?

Stock rims? and too wide a tire I think. There isn't much clearance there to start with

Dana 35 and C8.25 axles are C-clipped to prevent the axle pulling out. the cross pin in the spiders will prevent it from moving inward. I don't think its an axle problem here. likely an odd tire

Here's a pic of the rims. It's a 90 xj. Tire size is 265/70R/15

It is the width of the tire that is the problem. A 1" wheel spacer would correct it nicely

That's what I was thinking too. Thanks guys.

That seems weird to me that it would rub. I have 31x10.50r15 tires on my stock rims with no rubbing problems except for on the front LCAs. I thought my rims were the same dimensions/offset as those too.

I have 31x10.5x15 on stock rims and I have plenty of room. I think the problem is a combo of too much back space and too wide a tire.http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11/17/218089bcbb559f21801cdb5f8efb9b8d.jpg

Is it possible that those rims are for a regular Jeep?

As far as axle. Not a C Clip issue, but rather if the axle had shifted. That's why I was wondering if there had been any recent work done on the axle. Poor welding of the mounts.

No axle work. But those are 3 inch lift springs on it. don't know what brand. and no adjustable track bar.
But I doubt if that has anything to do with it. I think it's in the rim/tire combo.
He's looking into getting spacers any suggestions on brand/type?
I'll let you guys know how this plays out.

No spacers. I just bought rims : http://www.quadratec.com/products/92601_4XX_B_PG.htm

I have 31x10.5-15 Kumho AT's on my XJ. It has about a 3.5" lift. The Kumhos have been on since 2011 and about 30K miles. I run them at about 20psi. I'll probably have to replace them next year, but they are a little less $ than other tires in the range. About $130 per tire, if I recall. I can't recall the rim backspacing, off the top of my head. But I just bought 4 black steelies. Actually, I could have gone with less backspacing and I wouldn't have had to trim the plastic fender trim to avoid rubbing.

Well with a little research we determined that they are indeed factory rims....... For a wrangler...1.25 spacers were just ordered. I offered him a set of steel rims that I have. But he likes those rims
