So heres the story. When i got my XJ, it had a sufficient amount of 134A in the system, and held a charge for at least the last year and a half.

I found the compressor was at fault for the system not working, so i "evacuated" the system, and replaced the compressor, and that was it. I recharged it, and it was working great for a week. Then after i let it sit for a couple weeks, it no longer worked, i checked the refrigerant, and it was dead empty.

I cant find any info on this, but im assuming these o-rings (line to compressor) are not supposed to look like this? I should have replaced them when i was in there, but i didnt :smiley-scared003: It looks like they are completely crushed, so im not sure how well they are sealing on the new (used) compressor.

Also, does anyone know if there is a torque spec for the bolt from the AC line to the compressor? Maybe i over-tightened it?

Yes, O rings are shot. Just replace them all. There is also a real little one on the accumulator that will need to be replaced too. Crack all the fittings apart and if there is an O ring, replace it. There is also a seal on the front of the compressor that you might want to do while you are at it

Well spring and summer are creeping up fast, so its time for me to revisit this AC problem.

Its still holding a slight charge, but not enough to kick on the compressor. Is it possible for it just to leak to a certain point, and then stop leaking? I wouldnt think this is possible.

Ive heard some horror stories, and im thinking i may need to replace my evap core in the dash, since last fall i recall smelling a faint, sweet (not coolant) smell from the vents.....

If the core was leaking, all the refrigerant would be gone. Since it holds some pressure, you probably just have some bad O rings that need replacing. Replace one, replace them all

Ok, so I would say my AC is doing a little better than holding a charge. This is where it sat all winter, but it won't turn on. It seems as though if I top it off enough to make it run, it will work for a few days, and it drops just low enough to not work.

Is it possible that I just have air in the system from not pulling a vacuum on it?

This is with it not running. I may try to top it off again tomorrow and see what happens. Otherwise it's obviously holding pressure, maybe I just need to take it in for an evac and recharge.

Well I recharged it tonight, and man, when it works, it works! I think I may have a leaky Schrader valve, so I'll probably replace those this week.

And yes, it's not the most sophisticated tool in my arsenal, but it works hahaha

I like it :D

You can get caps with O rings in them that will seal those schraders up without draining the system.

How did you determine what kind of food type you jeep is? Mine is more like pork then beef.

That way you will never make a Wendys commercial, you know "Where's the beef?"
