So I'm sure I'm not the only gun guy on here, so I thought I'd start a thread on Firearms, shooting stuff, and blowing stuff up. I do a fair amount of bird hunting, and have a couple Remingtons for that. I've also got a .50 Cal muzzleloader for deer season, and my carry weapon of choice, a 9mm M&P Shield.

Here's my toy box, complete with homemade led lighting, a battery, and a magnetic reed switch.

Here's our baby gender reveal, done with tannerite and my father in laws AR-22

And here's my bird dog, Moose:

Too many scary black guns here. I'm deeply offended by the thought that all these weapons are in the hands of people just walking the street every day. Guns like this should never be available to the general public.

Who am I kidding? Here's an older pic of one of my toys.

Some nice toys!! Can't wait to get back down to SC, and get back to mine!! Unfortunately mine aren't nearly as nice as these are... I only have a Walther P22 and a Remington Mohawk 10c (was my dad's when he turned 14, and I got it when I turned 14), would love to pick up a 10/22, and would like to pick up a 700, and set it up similar to how Tony has his now.. just too big of a PITA to do now...

Way to many to list but my favorite right now is the .300 blackout I built. If you never heard of the round. It is pretty much a 308 in a .223 casing. Very easily suppressed

Working on a 6.5 Grendel, 6.8spc2, 458 socom and .50 beuwolf to round out my first ar builds.

My carry gun, S&W M&P 40 Sub-compact. LOVE this weapon! 7" long 23 oz? loaded. Maybe a little big but I don't care it just works...

Second is a Beretta 9000S.
Great gun I carry occasionally, fits in the same holster as my M&P. A little more chunky than the Smith but still a great gun. I've sold and traded over the years and vowed to never do it again unless I'm getting something I really want back.

When I shot three gun competition I used my Clark 1911 and had another one chambered for 38 WC. Once I tired of the traveling I sold the pair to another competitor that had asked about buying them at every event. Now I carry a Sig P228, still have my S&W 41 22 I like to use it for squirrel hunting, rabbit hunting and the odd crow.

different grips would fix that.

Only thing about 1911s is the single stack capacity. Accuracte guns that hit hard. If you need more than 7 rounds, things get interesting.
I did shoot a .45 a while back that was double stacked with full steel frame. Held 12 rounds IIRC; felt great in my hand too with the bigger mag. I can't remember for the life of me who made it though... Para Ord maybe?

I wish I still had my Sheridan air rifle, hits hard and is quiet. Although my Dad said it sounded like a 22, I don't think it was that loud.

My son has a Umarex .22 break barrel air gun that he hunts with. It sounds like a nail gun. He's taken squirrel, fox, crows easily at 35 to 40 yards with lead pellets.

I love my break barrel air rifles! They are a quiet, cheap and fun alternative to being out at the range spending big bucks at sending lead down range. I've done countless hours of target practice, hunting and equipment testing with little to no money invested in it. Feels great to pick up 500 rounds for 15 bucks or less.

I love my air gun as well. Super fun to shoot as well as cost effective.
I believe strongly in the break barrel to. Highly powerful and you don't run out of compressed air. And don't have to pump like crazy if in a hurry.
If I were to buy another one, I would definitely get the .22 caliber hands down. .177 is great and all but doesn't have the punch as a 22. If I remember right, some country's in Europe that have heavy gun control laws use air guns for hunting. I do suspect a new air gun will be in my near future.

I've toyed with the idea of an air rifle. I have a BB gun that I got when I was 11, it works great but has no power to it. My only concern even with a break barrel air gun is that I doubt it would do much to a coyote.....

Check on a Hasan. They come 357/9mm. In VA. they can be used for white tail deer. The .22 are also good for turkey and legal to hunt with.

There have been many coyotes taken with a .22 break barrel air rifle. Give me a bit and I will post a link to some 2015 reviews of what's available.

Little later than expected, but such is life..

http://www.airriflehunter.com/

Personally, I find that practicing with these air rifles is a blast. Its cheap to shoot, not too noisy, and lets you hone in those breathing skills to keep your rifle steady. After I got my air gun, I quickly learned how to sight in a scope and discovered various things that I could blow up with it. As well as making pretty marks on a paper. Just recently I purchased a new scope for my old savage .308 and got that sighted in. I was able to take it out on the deer hunt last week with confidence.

tinythexj
10-26-2015, 03:50 PM
Air rifles are great for hunting but depending on the calibre and game they are less forgiving. I have taken out several squirrels with a .177 air rifle with no problems and even took a squirrel out at around the 40-50 yards range. When my shots started calling for more distance I changed from a .177 to a .22 to ensure I delivered enough foot pounds of energy at the point of impact to ensure a humane kill. I'm still dialing my .22 in and trying to find the pellet that it is happiest with. I just picked up 200 rounds at walmart yesterday for 5 bucks so I can't complain about the cost per round.

Love deer season!! do you have any issues with varmints (coons/squirrels and the occasional crow) eating up your corn? Seen everything from electrical shock systems to cages on feeders work. Really like your DIY feeders, I've built a couple like that out of 55 gal plastic barrels. worked great! but it was frustrating looking at pic after pic of things other than deer going to town on my corn. may be something to think about especially if you don't have cameras on them.

The bad part is that I live 340 miles from the property. I have not found a better way of getting them the food. One year when we returned to the property , the decayed remains of something was in one of my 55 gallon feeders. The feeder stunk so bad, we rolled it to the burn pile, put some gas on it and torched it. I make the hole at the bottom of the feeder 4"X4" with a piece of tire tube covering the hole to slow the corn down coming out. it is amazing how the deer even eat the tire tube.

It's in the closet. I told everyone retreat to the closet, lock the door, take the shotgun out, and when you hear the door knob move, rack a round, step to the side of the door, and wait until you identify your target.

It's 00 buck, so hold on for a ride! :D

Winchester Defender, bought it like this. Actually bought a front pistol grip for it as well, and a flashlight mount. Then got a scabbard recently and it wouldn't fit in there with all that stuff on it.

I'll have to look up the mount thingy.

Me? I like a AR-15 near the bed,
A nice little 17 round magazine 9mm sub-compact near by
as we all know a pistol is just a stop gap to to get us to the rifle of choice...
The nice thing about an AR-15 is the .223 round has a bitch of a time getting through sheet rock.
That makes it a great home defence rifle. You have less risk for neighbours or family members.
That 30 round magazine means 3 or 4 bad boys are not a problem.
For best results, use a nice rail mounted light and a laser
so you aim by placing the dot on the spot!
With a collapsible stock you can turn around in just about any hall way without hitting the wall.
An AR has little recoil and even women enjoy shooting it as it is easy to shoot! (people like your wife?)
After all, when it comes to being a gun owner, why do you have it? Hunting, Self-protection, both?
Or do you have a thing for cardboard Zombie targets? No matter, it's all good practice!

It's also your God given right to protect you and yours!

so you aim by placing the dot on the spot!

Bob, I like your MO. Wife and I shoot often, I don't do zombies. But hey, like you said at least they're getting some target practice in!

I AM surprised that .223 stops when it hits sheet rock. Just a whopping 55 grains in most cases, but I thought its velocity would carry it a bit further. Interested to hear more.

From what I understand, when a .223 hits sheetrock it fragments and slows down immensely.

Teach me something. I've seen more than one AR15 with a scope on it, not a holo site, but a scope. I thought the purpose for an assault style weapon was to acquire a target quickly, aim and shoot. A scope narrows the field of view and due to the magnification you really can't keep both eyes open like you can with a holo site.

Also the little 223 bullet ain't great for long distance shots, at least that's what I think I know.

What am I missing (pardon the pun) or what don't I know?

I guess if the AR15 is a .308 it would be different. What is that, AR10?

Yes, there are a number of companies that make hunting versions of the AR-15.
There are many chamber sizes available from 22LR to 450 Bushmaster are available here are some of the available rounds manufactured (http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Complete_AR_15_Uppers_s/127.htm)
And as for Hunting? There is this version of the AR-15 set up for Hunting (http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire/model-r-15/model-r-15-450-bushmaster.aspx) That should bring a little light on America's favourite Multi-tasker!

Come January 1st Texans will be able to openly carry holstered pistols. I'm more of a concealed supporter but I can see the importance in open carry in an emergency.

I'm proud that we can weapons, and as technology increases, what anyone will be able to do will dwarf the weapons we have today.

Been shooting since before I can remember. I'll just post up my "GO TO" guns. I use these for competition practice the most with them and all are accessible by myself or the wife easily. I've started to collect up the parts to build her AR Carbine recently. Should have that done in the next couple of months. Need to get her to a range that rents pistols and see what handgun she wants to pick up as her go to sidearm.

GLOCK 17 with Streamlight TLR-1 mounted, and XS Tritium Big Dot sights. Usually rides in a Fury Concealment Holster and when I CC (i'm stationed in Cali so no carrying here have Texas CHL so I can carry outside of California haha)a spare mag rides in a Fury Concealment mag holder. Competition use usually finds a different mag holder on my hip but it works the same way the the Fury so the mechanics of operating everything are the same. Here's some vids from various matches. Carry ammo is 124 Grain +P Speer Gold Dots

From the Texas State Limited Championship back in 2010

My go to rifle is a 14.5 inch AR-15 with a permanently attached Phantom flash hider to stay legal with Uncle Sam. Magpul MOE stock, MOE grip, GG&G quad rail modular forearm that's been stripped of all but the 45degree rail for my Streamlight TLR-1HP and the top rail for a pop up front sight. Optic is a Primary Arms MD-06 that's seen years of hard use and keeps on ticking, backed up by a MAGPUL MBUS pop up front and rear sights. Thinking I may go to a Primary Arms ADS in the near future for the 50,000 hour battery life. Other than that it's a pretty simple gun. No need to get too fancy and it helps keep the weight down. I dont' have any videos of that so here's a pic. An older one from when I was in the middle of a PCS move so excuse the mess in the background. Standard ammo for this for both plinking and defensive use is 62grn Brown Bear soft points.

My go to shotgun is an older Winchester Model 1200 that used to be my bird gun and I had it modified by having the barrel cut down to the minimum length allowed without apply to build a Short Barreled Shotgun. The mag tube has been extended so I can carry 7 in the tube plus one in the chamber, and a polymer forearm has been fitted to better carry a TLR-1, and velcro has been added to the side of the receiver to carry 6-shot shotgun cards. These cards fit into my HSGI Taco magazin pouches perfectly and give me 18 rounds on shotgun cards ready to go plus the 8 rounds in the shotgun itself. It's ammo loadout is all 00 buckshot for defensive use. Picture is from a desert range day helping a friend's buddy who owns a target business test some reactive "bleeding" targets for his company.

https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/12119054_10208166917956802_8594730403343306901_n.j pg?oh=4af9fd2170e48a967c805b25a593426f&oe=56E7EB48

My load bearing gear. Simple and lightweight. Not carrying tons of ammo or mags.

HSGI Battlebelt with two double decker (one rifle one pistol) mag pouches a cheap buttpack (comes off if I'm going to carry a backpack), a BAE systems dump pouch, in this picture I was running a different holster at the time there's now a light bearing holster mounted there.

Condor Mico Chest Panel with HSGI TACO magazine pouches, a HSGI blowout kit, and a HSGI admin/radio pouch that holds my HAM HT with a handmic to go with it.

The backpack is a Condor small assault pack. It's typically my everyday carry bag I use to go back and forth to work. Carries all kinds of random stuff I feel I may need. There's a HAM radio mounted on that as well but if I was carrying the bag in conjunction with my other gear that would come off. no need to carry two HTs.

In this picture it's carrying my airsoft training gear. I use a Gas Blow Back airsoft rifle and pistol for at home training and weapon manipulation training. Able to do reload drills in my backyard without putting holes in ther neighbors houses lol ;)

https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfa1/v/t1.0-9/11825231_10207641016569596_4852664949862259864_n.j pg?oh=dd0ecca423438bb81518bbd9f333be87&oe=56E83C3B

I've also got a setup to carry a basic kit on my standard pant's belt which is a belt designed to carry a pistol. I have mag holders to carry 1 or 2 pistol and rifle mags a piece depending on my mood I guess. Little lower profile than the other stuff.

I've got a bunch of other weapons back in Texas.
Russian SKS from back when they were 75 dollars a piece
Russion M44 Mosin Nagant (M44 was the short carbine version of the 91/30 makes a nice fireball at night)
Smith and Wesson Model 1917 .45ACP revolver
HI-Point 9mm "Monkey Gun"
7mm Mauser
and a few others I'm sure I'm forgetting right now hah.

Josh, nice rigs. And thank you for your service. Really like your pack setup. Got an SKS as well. Hard to argue with price those were and the availability/price of ammo. I like the 7.62 round a lot better anyway. Will make a Texas sized hog buck like a mule. .223, unless placed very well, is about like a bee sting so you end up throwing several rounds at each one; not very effective.

Anybody shooting varmints long range?? I've always liked the ballistics of the 22-250. Hot round that packs a punch at distance. 3700 fps at the muzzle. Also SUPER flexible in bullet grain weights as well. can shoot from 50 to 90 grains. not sure the distance from which these exit holes were made, but solid performance nonetheless.

Here in Arkansas they rewrote the carry law, currently the riff is over the open carry portion, but the AG has stated that the new law allows for open carry. Here in Arkansas they rewrote the carry law, currently the riff is over the open carry portion, but the AG has stated that the new law allows for open carry. Scrape the flesh from the hide, if you want to keep the hair then stretch and dry the hide. If you just want the skin tanned then after you've fleshed it, soak it in lye or wood ashes for a few days. The hair should come off okay, scrape it off with a dull knife. Stretch and dry the skin. The brains (if intact) should be kept in the fridge until needed. Boil down the brains in water, let cool. Paint the brain solution onto the flesh side (not hair side) working it in well. When it is dry, the hide will be a bit hard. You'll have to work it (bend, twist, beat) to get it soft.
You can find ready made tanning solutions out there if you don't want to use brains.

Hey, I didn't know we were neighbors! You should come over and help me work on my Jeep sometime!

But in all seriousness, I wouldn't consider her aggressive but my pit bull definitely isn't friendly towards strangers. Makes me feel a lot more comfortable leaving my girlfriend home alone though. Shot my Ruger LC9 today. It did ok. Was fairly accurate with it but it kicked like a mule for a 9mm. I was hoping to replace wife's Glock 19 9mm with it, doesn't look like that's going to work. Had a ton of trigger uptake and a few other things, capacity being my main gripe. Single stack 7 round mag is standard, I have an extended version that holds 10. I don't know, it just didn't feel solid.

Found a new gun shop on the way to client's land. Bought 2 42 round AR mags for 12 bucks each and he had a rack full of them. Free FFL transfers as well. Cool dude, I'm going to support him and his shop. He had a good selection of good guns, with good prices. Saw a new brand, Tristar. They had your typical stuff, ARs and polymer frame handguns. They also had some over-unders and that's what caught my eye. Very nicely engraved guns that look to be very well made. Owner said they're quality guns. Some of these guns were 500 bucks or so. With a decent over-under running anywhere from 1000 and up, it definitely had me interested. Anybody heard of these or shot one? Interested in anything on the company. I was headed to meet up and didn't have time to chat him up. Tristar guns anyone?
The affordable gun market has gotten to be a big one lately. Hi point, skyy, just curious if these guys are serious. The last thing you would try to cheap out on is an over-under

I have a large assortment of guns but never had a rifle since I am not a hunter. I have always wanted a 30-30 lever action rifle and bought a used one recently. This is a Marlin 30-30 before Marlin was sold to Remington. The quality went way down when Remington bought the company. I was fortunate to find this one that was made before the sale.

I shot it for the first time over the Christmas holidays and was really impressed with how accurate it is.

great price on that LCP. There's another version of the LCP (LCPS i think?) coming if its not out already. The price may be tempting, but there's a lot Ruger could upgrade on this gun and still keep it affordable. EDC guns aren't meant to eat up rounds as a range plinker, but this gun with a few mods would be a winner. I dislike the trigger take-up but I'm sure you could drop in a better trigger. Hard to argue with that price though....

spent a few hours at the range with a good friend. He's recently been sponsored by Remington and had a couple new toys. I took my 1911, Glock, AR and SKS. He brought a Judge and the new Berretta 92 in 9mm. New Beretta is TITS!!! I've wanted a 1911 gun in 9mm and i think this is it. did pistol range first. got to play with some new moving targets. Now THAT was fun!!

Then we moved to rifle range. Got my AR dialed in and we put 4 or 5 mags through it. DONT BUY SILVER BEAR 5.56 AMMO. Had probably 8-10 rounds that didn't fire out of 140'ish rounds. Too many failures for me. I'll try to shoot it again then go from there.

Moved on to my open sight SKS. We did alternate shot on the smaller 4" targets. Had fun spotting each other and making adjustments. We both shot pretty damn well. At 50 yards, we we're making some solid hits. Can't wait to go back.

Back several years ago when there was a scare that AR's would be banned a AR was selling from $1200 to $1800 it was cheaper to build one than buy one. My son has built several of them. Although they cost more to build because all of the upgrades he does to them. Currently he is building a suppressed full auto with all the goodies that all said and done is going to be around $3200. He's just waiting to get his stamp from ATF to finish it. ( can't wait to shoot that bad boy)

Now that you can buy one for $600 you could probably build one a little cheaper but I would guess by not much.

Took me a while to buy into the AR platform and I'm not sold 100%. I don't like the caliber and didn't really like the guns. I traded an 88 XJ for one when gun prices were ridiculous. It was a fair trade, but I should've sold it before prices came down. Other than plinking at the range, I'm not sure what the hell you would do with one, other than look at it. Can't really hunt with it, although I guess it would be an ok caliber for lighter weight folks. Have heard 50/50 reviews on how effective it is on deer. Likely shooter error. .243 round is much better IMO. I like shooting hogs and other critters. While I've never done a side by side comparison (or even looked at ballistics of them) I would have to think the 7.62 round packs more punch. Its a lot cheaper and comes in HP for the same $. The .223 round was designed by military so troops could carry more rounds. Fortunately, I don't have to carry ammo so that feature never appealed to me. I've modded a couple SKS guns for mag drops (with the bolt closed) and put optics on them. I like AKs as well, although I don't currently have one, am looking for a side folder. Last was an under fold, fun to shoot. AR is an OK gun. Nothing to get excited about.

Just to wet someones appetite, you can put different caliper barrels on the AR platform. For instance my son has a need for stopping bears and mountain lions, which are beginning to be a problem. He has had one of each stalking him. His solution was to go to 50 cal on the AR platform. That has some punch. I am seriously thinking about getting one also for the same reason.

He put a heavier recoil spring in it. If you shoot it as fast as you can, it will push you around. He is going to redo the trigger to something a little stiffer to avoid that happening. Interesting thing is that CA has banned armor piercing ammo, and lead projectiles. Now that projectiles are being made of copper, these are armor piercing :D

To me, that is where they start getting useful. If I was building a target gun, then the 223 would be OK. However my father had a Swedish 222 target rifle that used a heavier load on that small caliper that was an excellent long range gun and would do a decent job of knocking down deer

GoneWithTheWind
03-02-2016, 05:26 PM
The .223 wasn't designed to kill, it was made to wound. The thought back then was the enemy would stop to help their wounded, it backfired, the enemy picked them up on the retreat. The full jacket would hit bone and deflect, or in a lot of cases pass through. If your worried about your fan getting messy, use NATO rounds because they will be more available than most hunting rounds.

Check out alexanderarms.com The .50 Beowulf is an ideal round for close range bear hunting. Where i live the forest is so thick most hunting is close range. Most shots will be 100 yards or less. At close range this round stops anything. After 250 yards it looses its stopping power. With a heaver recoil spring it kicks about as much as a 16 gauge shot gun. However on full auto it will push you backwards if you are not expecting it. No adjustable stocks though, it will break them and you will catch a buffer tube in the coller bone. Awesome gun though.

In my opinion, the one thing that makes an ar 15 a usefull firearm, is the ability to buy one gun that can change many different calibers just by removing to pins and inserting the correct magazine. Anywhere from .17 hmr to .50 Beowulf with out having to pay for a completely new firearm, just a new upper receiver. If you just want to shoot 5.56 rounds there are other options.

Originally, this is what I had hoped for as well. The only problem with the M&P Sport that I have run into is that the front sight is fixed to the barrel. This limits what optics/lasers you can run on it without setting them on a 45 deg angle. Other than that, this is by far the best reviewed one out there at that price range.

I on the other hand, own a Cherokee, and like to tinker with things. Piecing together something myself the first time around will hopefully save me money in the long run.

As for it being .223, the majority of the rounds going through my AR will be at the target range, no I wouldn't trust it for the deer hunt with that setup. That being said, I will likely get another upper with a different caliber just to have that option.

Look into a DPMS Oracle. It's a flat top AR with no fixed sight on the front. You can add optics and/or flip up sights of your choosing and falls right into that same price range.

Well it was 60* in MN today, which is almost unheard of for early March. So we took advantage with a day of trap and target shooting. I also finally got my scope mounted on the muzzleloader, but didn't have time to get it sighted in very well.

So, I have been on the fence about building or purchasing a whole AR-15. I have a couple shotguns, rifles, and pistols, but have never owned an AR. What are your thoughts on this situation? I don't want to spend a boatload of money and I am not against looking into different options.

Are there any manufacturers out there that I should stay away from? Who makes some good parts/accessories and whole units?

A few years back I would have recommended buying an inexpensive AK47 before they went sky high. Hard to make them stop working and cheap. Not to mention the power of the 7.62x39mm round, but now they're sooo expensive. I got my for $308 at a gun show about 10 years ago.

the 308 would be bad ass.

My son built a AR 10 I think it's a .308 if not it's 7mm mag. He likes it. He was doing 2 builds at the same time the AR 10 and a Blackout I don't remember what one had what caliber.

It's super easy to build an AR. What i like about building one is.
That you can spend more money where you want to.

Yup I'll be achieving escape velocity from here in August and head back to Texas. What are they doing in the semi auto pistols? I know with the 2014 passage of the micro stamping requirement the current crop of "approved" pistols will eventually dwindle to nothing. They are taking the long back door route to a pistol ban. :bang:

I know they are looking to get a bullet button ban on the books.

Local Action Rifle match (with Shotgun added in)

My 1-4 literally fell apart on me so I had to go to my Red Dot. The windage turret excused itself. The whole turret.

I forgot to turn on the camera for stage 1 and 3. So I only got two of the stages captured. Even so I took my class first place since I was the only one in the bolt action division.

It was supposed to be a rifle match but apparently Shotgun was added last minute and I showed up without my shotgun. Lucky for me someone had a spare Mossy shotgun so he loaned it to me and someone donated two boxes of shotgun shells to me. Great folks at the range I shoot competition at.

The AR-15 was first built in 1959 by ArmaLite as a small arms rifle for the United States armed forces. Because of financial problems, ArmaLite sold the design to Colt.

That's how politics works. It's how a lot of stupid laws and spending bills get passed. Where standing on there own they don't stand a snowballs chance of being introduced as a bill let alone passing. So it's attached to a bill that everyone likes so it passes. Like the health care bill (Obama Care) got stuff stuck in it that had nothing to do with heath care. The final version of that bill came out the day before the vote some 4000 plus pages but the democratic controlled house and senate passed it. I doubt any of them read all of it if any of it.

I turned him down because I can no longer shoot high cal rifles due to shoulder surgery I had a 1 1/2 ago. He insisted said I would have fun, So I went. Got there he pulled out the 300 then pulled out an other AR out of the case and said here you go have fun. After reminding him I can't shoot one he says look at closer. I'll be dammed it was a M&P 15-22lr it's yours he said. Shot around 100 rounds through it. This thing is sweet. So was the 300 black out short barrel. I really wanted to shoot it but for one of the few times I've taken a Dr's advise I did not want to risk having surgery again so I didn't.

Didn't have a camera with me. Being the armature gunsmith he is he took it a way from me. He did not like the open sights although after several adjustments we were constantly making 2" groups at 50yards. So it's going to get a red dot scope and a few other mods.

Holy crap I haven't seen one of those in a long time. Great handguns. Built like tanks. And if you run out of ammo you can beat the bad guy to death with it :) My dad carried one as a duty weapon for about a year when he was still a fairly new Sheriff's Deputy.

Took a trip to Alabama to visit family and while I was there my cousin decided he wanted a new gun so went out and picked up a Kel-Tec SU-16B. Great little carbine. 4.5lbs empty. 5.5ish lbs with a full 30 rounder in it. The only way to get that light with an AR is a 1200 dollar Carbon 15. A SU-16C has moved to my short list of next guns.

North Texas Multi-Gun match in Cresson, Tx. Good times. My first match since I got back to Texas.

Not exactly firearm related, but bow season is about to start in MN. As of Saturday, youll find me in the trees for the next few weeks. After that, in early November is shotgun season, and then muzzleloader after that.

This year is hunters choice (buck or doe) in my zone. The last few years have been buck only, and also, my field is corn this year, when its been beans for the last 4 years. Hopefully between all that, ill end up with some meat in my freezer soon!

Ive got 2 stands up, one on the north, and one to the south. The one to the south has been more fruitful over the last few years, as the one to the north faces the field, and is sometimes harder for bow shots. I prefer the one to the North though, as im a "wider" gentleman, and that stand is a 2-person (aka comfortable for 1 guy of my stature, lol).

The stand to the south:

I got my bow out for some practice in the yard last night. I need to set up a longer range....
