I own a 2001 xj and It got an engine head issue so I decided to remove the old engine and transmission and swap it with a 2004 holden commodore engine and transmission (chevy Ls1) I already bought the engine and the transmission but alot of people told me that it won't have 4wd because it's a 2wd transmission is that true ?? And if it is how can I get my 4wd to work again ??

That is a good question. Which tranny do you have? Most of the Chevy trannys have a tail housing available to bolt a transfer case to. However, to use the stock Chevy tail housing you may need to use the Chevy tcase from an S10. Or as in my case use an Advance Adapter tail shaft and housing to use the standard Jeep tcase

I have the stock transmission that came with the engine

Before I can begin to answer that question, I would have to know which transmission you have. I think the best thing is to ask the people who you bought it from and then contact Advance Adapters or Novak Enterprises. Both of those companies specialize in 4WD conversions.

My quick internet based research suggests that the transmission would be a 4L60E if auto or a Tremec T-56 if manual.

OK, if it is a 4L60E then you have two options. First use the S10 tail housing which is a five bolt ring for the tcase. You can then use the S10 NP231 tcase with it. That case has a stronger chain in it, but also a longer tail housing. You will have to change your rear driveline, which you would have to do anyway. The other option is to use the Advance Adapters 4L60E tail shaft and adapter for Jeep. I believe they come in a regular and short configuration. I have that adapter in my Jeep and have been very pleased with it
