I have a 89 XJ, just put a 4.0 from a 95 xj with larger than stock cam. I have the newer intake and throttle body. The issue I have is that none of the sensors hookup to the 89 wiring harness. Is there a way to adapt the harness and computer to work with the newer style intake and sensors? Can I put an engine harness and computer from the 95 in the 89 jeep? This is strictly a mud racing jeep. It starts and runs now, but have not driven it to see how it does. Any help and direction would be greatly appreciated, I have a race next weekend. Thanks in advance.

What you need to do is use the sensors from the Renix. That old intake will bolt up, but yo might have to match the ports though. A really good deal for you would be to use the 99 - 01 intake and adapt a bored throttle body and old sensors to that manifold. It can be done with some drilling and tapping

The throttle body is what throws me off. I have the newer intake on it, throttle body has 4 bolts to the intake. The Renix throttle body only has 3 bolts to the intake, and has all the sensors. So with the newer intake and throttle body, can I just use the engine harness and ecu from the newer xj?

Not quite so simple. You did use the Renix flywheel?

Yes, used the renix flywheel

It is a little different than the newer flywheel. You need to be all Renix or all OBDI. You cannot mix and match. You could use the Renix intake if you have it

I tried that a few days ago. When I turned the fuel pump on, you could here what sounded like air running in the middle of the intake. Engine would not start for anything. Had fuel, had spark. Nothing. Put the newer model intake on, no sensors hooked up, and it starts and runs.

You got me on that one

Yeah me too, lol. I have an extra newer style intake, going to send it with my buddy that works at a machine shop. Going to build an aluminum adapter plate to put the old 3 bolt renix throttle body on the newer intake and see how it does. If not, cut the top of the intake where the throttle body goes and weld it in the new intake. Either way, I am going to try to keep the renix throttle body on it. I really appreciate all of your help!

Hope it all works out Ralph

A little late to the party ... but ...

You need to adapt the Renix TPS to the HO throttle body. I made my own, or you can buy one from Hesco. The IAC uses the same plug and works fine. The ECT can be moved from the side of the block up to the thermostat housing, and all the other sensors can be placed in the same Renix location on the new block.

My current 88 MJ runs a 88 block, 92 head, 99 intake, 94 fuel rail, 92 throttle body, 98 PS pump and tensioner, all running off Renix EFI. Moved thing around a bit along the way though.

You'll need to use the following to make it all work:

'95 engine (complete)
'89 Renix ECU, wiring harness, and sensors
'99+ intake manifold
'99+ throttle body will work but you'll need to route vacuum line to MAP sensor on firewall
'91-'95 fuel rail & injectors
'97+ PS pump with tensioner pulley & mounting bracket
'97+ serpentine belt
Adapter for Renix TPS to HO throttle body as shown above
'91+ thermostat housing and relocate your ECT sensor there

My current 88 MJ runs a 88 block, 92 head, 99 intake, 94 fuel rail, 92 throttle body, 98 PS pump and tensioner, all running off Renix EFI.

With a green valve cover to top it off, I think yours qualifies as a Frankenengine. ;)
