I've been thinking about getting a dash cam.
There seems to be plenty now days running from $14 to $200.

I'm trying out a program called Autoguard on an old cellphone. It seems to work pretty well so far.

I've got a Contour "action camera" that I've had for years that gets pressed into dash cam service (or helmet cam service on my bike) when commuting. I catch some pretty amusing things on that camera haha. I would like to find something that I can hardwire in that will do auto over write on data when the card gets full.

Guess I need to get on Amazon and do some shopping/research to find one that will fit my needs on the Jeep.

I came across and ordered this on ebay. I'll let you guys know how it works out. For 17 bucks how can I go wrong?

OK. So I got this cam on ebay. It took about a week for it to arrive. It came with a usb charging cord and the windshield suction mount. The one thing it didn't come with was instructions or a manual. However I was able to find a youtube video of a 10 year old kid giving instructions on how to set it up.
The first thing I have to say is that it's smaller than I expected. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. The screen is small and the resolution is not that great. It gives you a good idea of what you're aiming at. Not suitable for playback.
It has an internal battery that lasts about 2 minutes. The good thing is if you plug it into a 12 volt power source it powers up and off automatically.

I first used a 4 gig class 10 micro card. The camera did not read it. I had a 16 gig class 4 card laying around, stuck it in and it worked perfectly.

It records sound too but I chose to turn that feature off. No one wants to hear me talk to myself.

It records video in 10 minute segments. That means if you drive for 30 minutes you will have 3 video clips. That's a little helpful when scrubbing through video looking for that 3 second clip of some asshole that cut you off.

The video seems a bit choppy. I guess that's a trade off for it's cheap price.
It also rewrites over itself when the card is full. So it's pretty much set it and forget it.

I give this product a rating of 7 tinfoil hats. Perfect for the daily drive but not suitable for documenting important events such as alien autopsies or late night probing
If you guys have any questions just ask.

here's a sample video.

I didn't look choppy at all to me. What's the resolution? 1280x720?

It has 2 settings. 1080P or 720P I have it set on 720.

This is really a no frills camera.

I thought the video looked good. I would think that is all you need.

What's the GPS for?

So the police will be able to provide the exact time and position to the prosecutor. ;o)

I pop my old Kodak Digital camera up on a suction cup mount and use that. I will be looking into a genuine dash cam here soon though.

It would be a good way to monitor a young driver and where they went, you know if they were a new driver and you wanted to keep them to necessary driving only.

Something to remember... a dash cam can show you're innocent.... just as easily as it can show you're guilty.

Yes! that is true.
luckily my camera is small enough so I can eat it if need be, and it won't spoil my dinner.
