I was working on the battery tray today on my son's 01. I was not able to just lift it out. there is some kind of connector attached to a circular disk that lays on the bottom of the tray. there are two wires that run to a harness on the passenger firewall. Does anyone know what I have here? it looks factory and I was not able to take a picture as the camera was not working.

Monitors battery temp for the charging process... Well I believe it's for the charging, I do know it's a battery temp sensor

Yep ... battery temp sensor.

From the FSM .....

BATTERY TEMPERATURE SENSOR
The battery temperature sensor is used to determine
the battery temperature and control battery
charging rate. This temperature data, along with
data from monitored line voltage, is used by the PCM
to vary the battery charging rate. System voltage will
be higher at colder temperatures and is gradually
reduced at warmer temperatures.

It unplugs from the harness so you can get the tray out.
