Just replaced the rear axle from a dana 35 to a chrysler 8.25. At exactly 36 to 38 mph I feel a little vibration. As if something is not in a harmonic state/balance. Below or after those speeds that it's fine. Any thoughts. I have not retightened the ubolts yet, going to tom, maybe that's it.

Turn the drive shaft 180 degrees and see what that does.

So I think I found the problem and created another one.

So the bolts that hold on the clamps.

These bolts
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-Joint-Strap-Kit-Front-Rear-Precision-Joints-437-10-/271927040064?fits=Year%3A2001|Make%3AJeep|Model%3A Cherokee&hash=item3f501d5840&vxp=mtr

We had a really really hard time getting them in and they were crazy tight.

I notice one of the clamps was shaking loose about an 1/8 of an inch. So I went to tighten it up and the head broke off.

Tom I am going to take it to a mechanic and have them loosen them all and replace them with the correct size.

Well I'm just going to drive a few blocks at 20-25mph. I think I can make it that far.

Yeah that would cause your vibrations alright.

If I understand correctly, you'll probably sling a cap, then the u-joint will either jam in place, or the drive shaft will sling out completely.

I'd find a way to secure it for the short trip. Like a hose clamp, or something.

I can't remember if you have a 4x4 or not. If so I'd remove the rear drive shaft and drive it there in 4x4, which would be front wheel drive.

I made it without issues. They are going to work on it tom. They said it would be about $75 dollars. They are going to take out all the bolts and install a size that will fit. If that doesn't work they can buy a new yoke. I asked if they could get a heavy duty yoke. He said yes, it's called a super yoke.

So now waiting on Tom.

The mechanic also said that if that bolt didn't break it would have broken on my trip to Chicago this weekend because the bolts are too tight anyway.

Now we see the importance of "torquing to spec."
That being said, I would still highly recommend going with the U-bolt conversion.

Glad you made it.

Me Too!!!
The more I learn about these jeeps the more I want to upgrade. My jeep has almost no rust and I don't see a reason I can't upgrade it and keep her running.

Had those bolts on the shaft connecting to the rear end replaced, with new brackets.

Works great.

After I had the mechanic do the work he said" The best thing you could have done is get rid of the dana 35" I laughed and told him how much I spent on it and all the grinding.

So everyone the chrysler 8.25 is running great and no noise. I should have done this years ago.

Ok what's my next project.
