Other then when the A/C is active, does the PCM also control the E-Fan for engine temps?

I noticed today that poking along in traffic today that the engine temp in the Red Wagon was steadily creeping up. It hit about 230 at one point, but no E-fan activation like I thought there would be.

Yes, she survived, no boil over and as soon as I moving more than 3MPH, she cooled right back down.

I think it's time for a fan clutch....

I believe the magic temp is 220. PCM turns on with A/C and I believe that is only if the compressor is running, and at 220 degrees.

I think you are right on the fan clutch. You also might have a similar problem to Mudderoy where the PCM isn't really reading the right temp or communicating the right temp to the gauge

Eeesh.... mudderoy and I are Jeep twins I guess.

Maybe it's time to start looking into the flex-a-lite fan setup. Screw the mechanical fan and use a standalone setup.

I have electrics. But make sure you can move enough air with the electrics. You need about 3000 cfm total to match OEM output

Going to replace the fan clutch here soon. See if that helps. It's got a all new hoses and radiator, so I have that going for me. :smiley-scared003:

I only see this issue on days that are over 90 degrees. Quite odd really.

For now, the A/C compressor is unplugged, which forces the E-fan for to run when I engage the A/C mode. I'll suffer, but I'd rather suffer, than have the thing die a horrible death.

That is enough to stress the cooling system

My '87 never had this issue. Sigh... Oh well. Must be a Jeep thing, and I'll never understand.

This is just a sign that your Jeep loves you and is just seeking attention

Fan clutch, Temp sensor change... We'll see how she does after these are done this weekend.
