Hey all. Been gone a while and back to this, that and the other thing.

So, I found a 90 2-door xj (only 4x2), but the engine seems solid and the body is in great shape.
My 89's engine is starting to have the angry sparrows (I'm betting on main bearings heading south) and the doors don't line up (wind slam'd them open too hard a time or two)... and electrical :bang: issue on top of that.

The 90 is about a grand and I've always liked the 2 door... I could swap my lift and tires and ...

Not to mention, a friend I deployed with has the drive line from a 75 Scout he'd sell me for ~ not a lot. (Dana 44's, but would be external locking hubs...)

Or... try to strip mine down and rework it from the ground up.

Just not sure where I want to start my focus ~ guess I'll drink another beer and call it a day

Hey, welcome back! Good to have ya safe and sound. Those scout axles sound nice. I guess it depends on how big you want to go. Clearance vs strength?

Welcome back brother.

External hubs arent a bad thing.

...the axles were more to swap in 4x4 vs. The 2wd there now

Welcome back! Honestly for me, it comes down to "Can I accomplish my goal safely and economically"... so I say go for it. You can always swap again at a later date and prolly make money off the Scout parts

Myself personally... I'd go for the 2dr, and swap your lift and everything over to it to make it 4x4, and get the axles from the friend...

Ah, okay. I thought you meant the scout axles versus swapping over the ones from yours.

So I have an '89
The 2door is a '90
What year did they swap from Chevy connections on the brake lines to Dodge?
If I do the swap from jeep to keep ~ what fitting will I need to make that work?
Or is it a wheel cylindar swap fix?

...also the 2wd is an automatic
What are the odds my transfer case would bolt on the '90 tranny?

You can't bolt the tcase on to the 2WD tranny. You need the tail housing and shaft from the 89

I didn't think the tail shaft would be compatible...

Was thinking of pulling the trans w\ case and making the new xj a 5 speed manual...
But that's gonna cause computer problems and wiring on the throttle body?

To go 4x4, I'd need to get an auto trans w\ t-case?

* might just keep shopping. There's gotta be a good 2 door 4x4 out there (for cheap) ...

I'm not sure on the PCM. I think you might have to match the PCM with the tranny. But yes, unless you take the tranny apart and swap parts, you need the 4WD stuff. Two doors are not common, but I like mine. One big advantage is cutting the fender wells for large tires. No door in the way in the back

On the PCM, it is a different item # depending on auto or manual.
I believe it's wired to the tranny.
And on the throttle body, the manual has 1 less wire than the auto.

... didn't like the 2 door when I went to look. Not enough to sell me on the work needed.
