Found a factory transfer case skid plate for my '01 Limited. Anyone happen to know the size of bolts I need to get, and should I get any particular type for strength and to combat corrosion?

Thanks All.

I think those use 12mmX1.25

I've got no threads, so I'd need rivnuts. I'm not finding suitable rivnuts around here. Checked with a mechanic friend who's done a few similar installations and said they typically weld on nuts as needed. Will probably go that route.

Thanks!

Well, not interested in $100 to weld a nut on, and I'd prefer the plate to mount flush anyway. Everyone I ask around here, including the 4WD specialty parts store, has no clue on where to have three steel rivnuts or nutserts installed around here.

Heard there is a product that you pound in. If you get the right size to where they are snug enough not to turn, then the bolt will pull a piece into a sleeve so the part doesn't come out: like the mushroom on the back of a rivnut, but a round half-nut wedge.

You may want to try a local shop that outfits commercial vehicles. If they install bins and what not in commercial vans that usually requires the installation of those and they may have some that they can sell you.

Learned the following on the nutserts for mounting a factory TC skid plate:

M8 x 1.25 x 18.29
Manufacturer part #34201575

There are four in the country at various dealerships throughout Texan and Oklahoma.

I finally found something locally that I hope will work. Now I need to fashion myself a homemade tool to mount them. Plenty of videos on how to do this, but not knowing if they work on not, I bought twice as many nutserts as needed.

Got it mounted. Finally! Found the nutserts, and sorted out a double nut method for getting them synched up.

I haven't gone anywhere to actually need a TC skid plate, but maybe someday. Regardless, I've not let my $20 Craigslist purchase to go waste.
