They were going for 1 horse power per cube.... One show from parts to dyno.

Cool, I would definitely enjoy learning more on the 4.0!

That's awesome... And like Jake said... Hope they get/give & use correct information.. cause I've seen a lot of information in my research that are not matching up..

I'll warn you guys, they were using a 1987 (or 84) 4.0 with a carburetor, on a 99 intake.

I watched it on sunday morning actually. It was a very interesting build until they got to the dyno. With the carb they had on it the results were so so. They hit their numbers with a 750 cfm carb on the motor though..

The one that didn't work as well was the fuel injection system. That big honking 750cfm was amazing looking on the intake.

Yep that's right, I couldn't remember what they had on there to begin with.

I haven't watched it, but the carb is a disappointment. They did the same thing getting 500 hp out of a 4.3L Chevy, like I have. They just threw a carb and intake on it and went old school. I think it is because they just don't want to mess with all the electronics involved

They had a fancy computer controlled fuel injection system on it first, but they couldn't get the numbers they wanted on the dyno. I suspect they didn't have the tune they needed.

Well, that is just it. You could say, hey just build it. But those of us that live with smog regs can't do that, so it is impractical for the majority of people in the country. Besides, if I had that engine and went to where I like to wheel at 6,000' or as I will in August at 8600' you can forget that. That engine would not run right at all and may not even start. When I was a kid I made all kinds of money starting cars that would not start at that altitude. But look at the Hellcat engine, and Fords 500 hp 302. It can be done

I hope I am not coming across like I only care if it applies to my rig, did not mean that at all, I tend to get my self in trouble a lot. Pook has a big mouth sometimes! If I do come across that way I'm sorry.

And I am sure I will find it interesting, more knowledge is always a good thing, and just because it's old tech does not mean it's useless.

Watched it a bout a half dozen times,
They got 243.5 HP out of it with a 750 CFM Carb on it.
The Throttle body injection 4 barrel tanked.
They got all jazed up because they got 66HP & 66 FP of torque over stock out of it on the dino. Not a bad build!
